Hi everyone? Would you ever replace your ER that you have worn since the day you became engaged?

No for me, as I chose it so love it.

But if I hated it and my partner really really didn't mind I don't see the problem with getting it melted down and made into something new.

Why, do you not like yours?

You have to be comfortable wearing it but if your fiance chose it for you but you don't like it then that's hard! I think I only would say something if I really hated it e.g. if it was massive and blingy (I'm a simple girl) and I just felt like a knob in it.

I picked mine, so I love it, loads, we have been engaged for 5 years now though so it's a little worn and I think I just feel that it's not shiny and new anymore. We have talked about getting 1 with my birthstone in (April, diamond) and his birthstone (march, aquamarine) and found 1 we like. It's cheaper than the ring I have and love now so it's not about the "price tag" or bling of it. I just can't stop looking and wondering if this is the time to renew or just get mine cleaned up xx

Hmmn tricky. Could you not get yours polished and get the new one too and wear them both (on different fingers)?

I quite like the idea of my engagement ring getting old (and a bit tired) with me, but that's just me.

Or could you get his birth stone added to your polished original engagement ring? Obviously that may not be possible design wise!

I hadn't thought of adding to mine. I think maybe I'm just getting carried away with buying and everything being new and fresh and exciting. I like your thoughts thank you x

I love my ER, OH chose it for me and he chose really well, I know a lot of thought and sneaky digging and conspiring went in to it and I wouldn't change it for anything. It will never be as shiny and new as the day he gave it to me but nothing stays perfect forever.

    I wouldn't change mine.

    Why not re-dip yours?

I would never change mine but then we chose the design together and the diamond is from his grandads ring so it has sentiment too.as pugsley says could you not have it re-dipped? Is it white gold as rhodium plating almost makes it look like new.

I wouldn't, my h2b chose the design himself and I absolutely love it. It's 18ct white gold and is a bit scratched/worn looking, even though we've only been engaged 8 months today. We're just going to have it re-dipped before the wedding so it's as shiny as my wedding ring.

Hmm, if I had a legitimate reason to I would, but only using the original metal and diamond. I love my ring because he gave it to me, but I wouldn't have chosen it myself.

I've had it for 15 months now and the white gold is already really worn and yellow looking. I had another white gold ring that took 7 years to wear. I've had that one re-plated and it looks amazing so I'll be getting the ER done just before the wedding.

Never. It was designed for me and was the ring he proposed with. I have never taken it off in 4.5 years and its worn and scratched but that makes me love it more. I might get it polished up on our anniversary next year but would never change it.

I would change mine and plan to... I'm not very sentimental it's just a piece of jewellery to me!

I'd only be concerned about hurting my OHs feelings but it was his suggestion to change it in though he wants to get something better! Funny enough the ring I like is cheaper!

So ladies i changed my ER for a bridal set, very similar and me and H2b love it. I do feel like i've sold my original ring out a little though. Left is what i had as an ER and what wedding band i was going to go for, 2nd picture shows my new ER on its own x

Go get it properly polished up at a jewellers, and re-plated if necessary. You'll be amazed at the difference it makes! Smiley smile

Don't feel bad about changing it, I replaced mine and it doesn't bother me at all.
