Replacement windows and cost??

RuthG, 3 April, 2008 at 14:14 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 6

We had a second viewing on a property last week, and discovered that nearly all of the windows need replacing. I'm trying to get rough quotes, but it's difficult, so I was wondering, has anybody had their windows and doors replaced in the last year or so, and how much was it.

We're looking at getting 7 windows, a front door, a back door and french doors replaced.

Anybody like to have a guesstimate?

This probably isn't much help as we got ours at quite a discount as my God-father owns a (20 somthing % discount) but we had 10 windows, a door and french doors done and fitted for £6k, they are mahogany on the outside and had squared leading which add to the cost. I think if you budget £6k you should be ok.

I would get lots of quotes and play companies off each other, they expect to be knocked down.

Very much depends on the materials.

We have 23 windows to replace - no doors. PVC quotes come in between £****. Hardwood came in around the 20k mark and so did composite.

Therefore I would budget £500 per window PVC or £1000 per window hardwood or composite. Didn't bother with quotes for softwood - guess somewhere in the middle of the two.

We had 10 windows, front and back door and french doors fitted 13 months ago.

We used the best company in our area and the quote was the highest but their reputation is outstanding

    it cost us 4.5k

Sorry, forgot to mention that our price included having one window made into a bay which added approx £700 to the fitting cost, so maybe closer to £5k.
