Restless leg syndrome

overtherainbow, 21 August, 2011 at 09:48 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 3

Does anyone else suffer from this? Mine's worse when I'm tired and last night was a bad one! Anyone have any tips on how to get rid so you can sleep. I sleep flat on my back in the 'coffin' position as my hubby calls it and can't sleep on either side at all as it gives me vertigo but sometimes when I've been desperate, I've tried to put my legs over to the side and it helps a bit but as soon as I lay flat again - Aarrgghhh it's back!

I'm convinced i've got this but luckily i don't get it in bed.

I get mine when i'm sat on the sofa and start getting tired, i take it as my sign it's time for bed.

The only way i can shake it is to get up and walk, not really what you want in the middle of the night is it though.

Im sure I read somewhere that eating a banana before bedtime can help with this. Something to do with the iron content in bananas as restless legs can be a sign of iron deficiency. Not sure if this is any help to you?!

I'll try that - I usually have a couple of bananas a day so I'll save my afternoon nana for bedtime and see if it helps. I might get iron levels checked too though just to be on the safe side. Unfortunately I inherited huge cholestrol levels off my Mum. Statins didn't reduce it and caused me horrific side effects too so had to come off them. But, I have a very strict fat free diet and only eat chicken and turkey in minute amounts as I'm not allowed red meat. I do take a multi vitamin pill too and have blood tests every 6 months for cholestrol levels etc but they never mentioned about iron so will have a chat to GP.

    I get this!!

Its magnesium deficiency. I have some high strength magnesium tablets and one of those half an hour before bed and no restless leg!

It drives me mad when I forget my magnesium!

Feels like my feet could run a marathon but my body just wants to sleep.
