Ring Crisis Part 2

MrsCWB, 23 July, 2014 at 18:50 Posted on Planning 0 18

Ok, so I have finally heard back from our original designer, and she is issuing us with a refund. She has good reasons for her disappearance, and was very sorry. She was really lovely in her email.

This means I need to find another ring. We found one for H2B quite quickly, but mine is proving a problem. I want an 18ct white gold ring, 2mm and engraved with oak leaves. Everywhere I have looked at so far charges about twice the original price and we just can't afford that.

I am having to give up on my dream wedding ring and search for something else, but nothing I have seen is interesting me. I can't find anything I like anywhere.

My friend has said to get an Argos cheapy and replace it at a later date, but I am really superstitious and I want the ring I wear in my vows to be the ring I wear all my life.

Any ideas or suggestions - or even weirdy internet hugs, I'll take anything at this point!

x

Glad to hear it's all sorted. I was just about to message you back lol.

Where have you been looking for alternatives? Keep hunting around, and don't be afraid to haggle (or, if you're going into shops rather than online, to turn on the tears - got me a £700 discount on mine, although I have had to pay cash). Could you perhaps reallocate money from other parts of your budget to pay for the increased cost? Or could you buy a plain white gold 2mm band and then get it engraved separately? Don't give up on your dream wedding ring just yet - after all, it's the one part of your wedding (other than your groom) that you will see everyday for the rest of your life.

Definitely have a hug. Have you tried Etsy? Maybe there's a ring designer on there who could make something like what you wanted.

Where are you based? We're having our rings custom made and I'm having a pattern engraved, similar to yours. Our guy is really reasonable considering they're handmade rings! We are in Bristol...

Harriet Kelsall workshops in Cambridge has several designers/makers and I'm sure could do an oak leaf engraving.

Hugs hugs hugs. We're probably a bit far away for you, but are using Brooker and Breeze jewellers in Wallingford for my bespoke ring and are really pleased with price and design.

Have you thought about coming down to 9ct gold to lower the price?

I did think of that, but was told it wasn't a good idea because my ER is 18ct.

I think your friend has a point use another ring and replace at a later date.

As far as been superstitious are you getting married in a church. If you are you can ask the vicar/priest to bless your new ring when you get it. My sister had to have her ring replaced because the original one got too small. The new one caused her problems with irritating her skin and she got all superstitious and said it was because it hadn't been blessed and not given to her when she took her vows etc etc. She approached our local vicar (although she wasn't a particular church goer) He agreed to bless it for her if they attended the service one SUnday. They did and he blessed it at the end of the normal service. Surprisingly she has had no trouble with it since - so make of that what you will.

If you are getting married in a church it may be worth asking your vicar or priest if he would bless your new ring. How about on or as near as you can to your 1st wedding anniversary.

Neither of us are religious, and I would feel really uncomfortable going to our local vicar to get my ring blessed. Sounds crazy, but it would be against my beliefs!

I really want the ring that is put on my finger to be the ring I wear for life. It's the one that we make our promises to each other over. Am I being a bridezilla?

If you really can't find what you want in your price you could buy a plain 18ct white gold band and have it engraved at a later date? I am sure that it is possible to do that and then it would still be the same ring.

Thank you so much everyone for your ideas and hugs!

The ring crisis has been solved! We have found a local jeweller who can do exactly what I want. Not for the original price, but not far off it. Not to mention the fact that my amazing Mum stepped in and paid for it as we're still waiting for the promised refund.

    I could've cried!

I looked at that one, but it is way over our budget. The one from the local guy will be ready in a few weeks!! Smiley laugh
