Ring Shopping

DarkMoomin, 17 February, 2012 at 15:20 Posted on Planning 0 6

Hi All,

So, we are finally going ring shopping tomorrow! and I am determined that we are going to get it motly bottomed out tomorrow. I think he will be easy cos he's likely to go for a simple band and we can just find the best price.

For me, I have an odd shaped ER:

/webstore/d/****/18ct+white+gold+half+ct+diamond+solitaire+twist+ring/ (I think its this one, but the price seems to have gone up dramatically!)

So I have accepted that I may need to get something made to fit, if plain bands or the more standard shaped dont look right. But I'm hoping a straight band will look OK, I'm not precious about them having to actually fit together.

Anyway, I'm not 100% certain whether I just want a plain band or if I want something set with stones. But if I go for stones, I quite like the idea of having coloured gemstones (probably ruby or emerald) and I would really like something like this, I think:

Has anyone seen anything like it with coloured stones? Or have any idea whether it would be more or less expensive than with diamonds?

Were ring shopping tomorrow too. I decided we're going to both have similar plain 18ct white gold bands. I dont want anything to fancy as i love my engagement ring and dont want to take the shine off that. We're going to a local jewellers, so hoping they might be cheaper than high st. If can't get anything there, then were off the jewellery quarter in Birmingham. Exciting stuff :-) xx

Hi DarkMoomin, my engagment ring is similar to yours in the shape, with the "twists". I thought would have to have something made to fit around my engagment ring. But when i actually tried some on i found that the best rings that fit are the "U shaped rings" like this one.....

alot of the shops i have looked in stock rings in these shapes and obviously its alot cheaper than getting one made. So it may be worth trying some of these shape on.

Have a good time ring shopping, its really fun :-)

If you fancy looking a bit further afield, Beaverbrooks in the Ridings, Wakefield is closing down and everything has 50% off......We got my OH ring there in platinum, saved a fortune, as you say, prices are going up.

They only have what they have in the window but payin for them to be resized is worth the saving....or you might be lucky and they fit!

    Oh thats interesting!

I have beaver brooks on the list - so if the have 'the ring' might be worth a call to see if they have it then! Thanks for the tip!

Nad thanks for the ring shape tip too - we have an appointment with a high end jeweller who seem to stock a massive range of styles so I'm hoping even if I can't afford to buy from them it will help narrow down the styles etc!

I fell for (and got) this

    http://www.hsamuel.co.uk/webstore/d/8912777/9ct+white+gold+diamond+shaped+band/

for my twist shaped ring. Also maybe consider crossover rings (a bit like this)

    http://www.hsamuel.co.uk/webstore/d/4311094/9ct+white+gold+carat+diamond+eternity+ring/

This one was a little wide for my taste and to match my e-ring (which has a very skinny band) but I really liked the style. Found a finer one at goldsmiths but only in yellow gold, and I think I've seen more since then.

Be quick though DM, they close finally on Sunday and it is only that store. They had quite a few rings left when i went last week but what u saw was what they had. We spent over £1k in there in total on various bits including OH Ring, my bridal necklace and earrings and a watch for him, as well as some Trollbeads which I wear all the time!

My ring came from F.Hinds in their sale which I have always found to be good. Mine is a thin platinum band set with Diamonds to match my ER. OH's is just a thick plain platinum band too, but would have been expensive anywhere else!

    Well worth a look!
