Room for a little one?

mrsedwards, 17 February, 2010 at 15:30 Posted on Planning 0 30

Hello ? I just got engaged on my birthday on sunday in paris, so had lots of time on the train back to think what I want for the day etc. This site has been great so far for ideas, and to be honest I'm just a teensy bit nosey, so like looking at everyones pictures!

There are some beautiful dresses about but not sure what I really want to be honest, I've decided on colour scheme and the venue I want, luckily there is a wedding fayre on there in a couple of weeks, so that should be fun.

The arguments have already started over bridesmaids dresses, and which family are being invited, so need to nip that in the bud before it escalates into world war 3!

I've also just been and spent £12 on bridal magazines ? I'll have to knock that little habit on the head if we are going to pay for this wedding, my other half is away tonight, so I think an early night will be in order with my mags and a cup of tea to get some inspiration.

so it was really just to pop my head in and say hello, and no doubt you will all be full of good advice for me!

lisa xx

Hopefully in september next year, although I was going to have it on a friday, realised later that my boss would have to close our work for the day (only 6 staff) so not sure how he would feel about that!

so might change it to a sunday, does anybody get married on a sunday?

Thanks mrs spink! we are having civil ceremony so not sure if prices would be diffferent?

also there is about 30 guests that will be coming from down south, so not sure what would be better for them with regards to days of work etc?

if we had it on a sunday they would just have to take the monday off, but I'm sure if we had it on a friday, people will want to be here for the thursday night so they dont have to travel up on the actual day,my boss is actually a very lovely man so I'm sure he woukd shut the practice for the day if I asked him very nicely? I don't think he would want to face of the wrath of the staff if he said one of them would not be allowed to go!

    Hi Lisa

    Welcome to hitched!

i'm getting married in August next year - and it's on a Sunday - in fact we chose BH Sunday so that way everyone will already have the Monday off - is this something that you could consider? we too are having a civil ceremony - it's cheaper at the venue with it being a Sunday, but more expensive for the registrar to come out - in fact i think we're paying just over £400 for the registrar.

happy planning - if yu get chance try and book your venue soonest - that way you should be able to take advantage of this year's rates!

Hi Marie, we are looking at beamish hall on sunday, then lumley castle in a couple of weeks, whereabouts are you going to be?

I'll be bugging everyone on here with loads of questions!

is anyone having bridesmaids in different style dresses but the same colour? my bridesmaids are totally different shapes so I think one of them might look a bit odd in one of the dresses i like so I might just let them choose their own style.

We booked ours in January this year - and they were all free - particularly because it was a Sunday, most people don't really think about it and go for the Saturday straight away. We asked our venue to pencil us in for that date and then we went back about 1 week later to pay the deposit.

before you book and pay the deposit though i would just check with family that they have that date free - although it's months away, you never know if they have already comitted to another wedding, or like you say a holiday.

good luck - let us all know when you've booked the one you want!

Oh trudy I'm such a loon haha I thought you meant the venue was free, not the date ? I was just going to ring the other half and say oohhh we might not have to pay for the venue on a sunday!

honestly I need to get a grip! I think my brain is turning to mush after being on the laptop for hours looking at invites and dresses!

Me again! sorry one other thing to do before you pay the deposit - call the registrar's office to provisionally book them - you can do this even though it's more than 1 yr in advance - at least that way you know that the registar will be free - especially if you do book the BH weekend date. they'll send you a letter confirming the provisional booking whch you will need to produce when you give notice!

Hi lorna, no I hadn't really expected it, we had a lovely room on the 17th floor overlooking paris, and I had been in the bath, so the window had all steamed up, so he left the ring on the windowsill, and wrote 'will you marry me?' in the steam!

    very cute?

    Hi

Welcome to hitched and sorry to jump in so late in the thread.

I also got engaged on my birthday last november but haven't done much planning yet as we aren't getting married for another 4 years (that sounds so long - but I am sure it will fly by)

Congratulations on your engagement and enjoy your hitching!!!

    M xx
