RSVP dates

car822499, 25 August, 2010 at 13:36 Posted on Planning 0 6

Hi all,

What date should I put on my RSVPs??? We're getting married 18th December 2010. My OH thinks beginning of November to give us time to get the final numbers and invite others if some people can't come but I don't know if that's too soon. How long are others leaving it? ?

Thanks,

Car. x

    Hi!

We put the date of July 1st on ours (wedding's Sept 4th) and we still haven't had RSVPs from some people! I think beginning of November is acceptable, gives you plenty of time to chase up people too.x

I'm getting married in mid-November and I sent my invites out at the beginning of July with a deadline of 1st August. We are still waiting on replies now! I personally would make the deadline much earlier, say beginning of October, but that's simply because I've seen how lazy people have been with replying to us. You don't want to get into a situation where you're still waiting on people but have to provide the final numbers and things. Just go with what you feel is best.

I think it's fine! There's no rule - personal choice.

You need time to get all the RSVPs back and get the info to the venue in time for their deadline.

We sent our invitations on 1st November 2009 with an RSVP date of 22nd January 2010 for our May 2010 wedding!

Well I hate to admit it but I think my OH made a better decision than me ?. We'll have to get our skates on and get them made then.

Does your venue/ outside cateror give a deadline for final nos, as that will influence your RSVP date. You will probably find this in the small print if applicable, e.g. our venue needs pretty much final nos 6 weeks in advance so they can raise their final invoice and firm nos 4 weeks in advance.

On a more practical note I think the longer you give people to RSVP the more likely they are to put the invite in a corner, fully meaning to RSVP but because there is no urgency you dont hear back for ages xx

    Theres no rule.

Work out when you need to confirm numbers to caterers and also how long if will take for who ever is making you stationery to put together placecards and table plan and anything else you are having (if you are having them that is). Anything that relies on numbers you must factor in to the RSVP date. Then I would say add 2 to 3 weeks to allow for chasing which usually is inevitable unfortunately.

    Hope that helps.

Good point about place cards etc. Never thought of that. I'll be the one making those. I'll have to check the small print for final numbers etc as I'm not sure when it'll be.
