RSVPs

Kat44, 21 January, 2011 at 23:51 Posted on Planning 0 11

We are considering including RSVP cards and envelopes with our invitations... but can't decide whether to include stamps or not. Discussed this with my folks and it's split between 'they're getting the card and envelope, surely people can get their own stamp' and 'we're giving them the card and envelope so may as well include a stamp'.

opinions please ?

Include a stamp - it's the last excuse for people not to RSVP, don't give them it!

That's my thinking really, then if they don't send it back, it's obvious they're just rude!! Smiley smile

I didn't put stamps in, I included a card and envelope, if they can't be bothered to get me a stamp I'm not sure I can be bothered with them at my wedding! Plus it gives the opportunity for people to phone or send their own card instead, and the stamp's not wasted.

(Plus I didn't realise my envelope was too thick for a normal stamp, so I stamped them all then had to go buy more stamps and double them up!)

Dont forget that even with a stamp, some people wont bother with an RSVP. I havnt bothered and have received 3 back so far, not bad for sending them out Tuesday ?

I've done RSVP cards and envelopes with return address labels on.. Have decided to put stamps on envelopes for the people I think would take forever to send it back - I even put a stamp on one of my bridesmaids envelopes ha!

We included envelopes with a stamp and an address label so people have absolutely no excuse not to reply.

We've still had less than half of our replies back, so it seems that people still don't seem to have the ability to tick a few boxes and stick something back in the post.

Just as bad is those who leave it till the last minute to reply. Driving me nuts!

If you're already booked, then you reply and say you can't come. If you're free, you're available and say you can go. Then stick it in the postbox the next day.

Don't leave it till the last minute in case you get a better offer, or drop out after the rsvp date when you do.

I accept there are things like illness that mean unavoidable changes but they're few and far between.

We had separate RSVPs for each person on the invitation (partly because we needed menu decisions from each person and partly to make it very clear who was invited!), so we included one envelope for all RSVPs in each invitation, which was stamped and addressed (Vistaprint "return address labels" were free at the time and perfect size for half-A5 RSVP envelopes ?).

I think the stamps were worth it - we have had around 90% of our responses well before the deadline we gave, and of those, I think we have had 2 back which did not use the stamped envelope (i.e. were given to us by hand). IMHO it's worth doing. We are planning to use the RSVPs at the tables as well to remind people of what they have chosen to eat, so the more we get back the fewer we have to re-write ourselves ?
