Rumour of venue going into administration.....advice?!

Hezza, 8 January, 2009 at 15:03 Posted on Planning 0 6

Afternoon ladies,

Im looking for some advice or just someone to help me see straight....

Iv not booked my wedding yet, i have a meeting at the venue with the wedding co-ordinator next saturday. (dont laugh, but im not getting married till 2012)

anyway,i told my best friend that i had the meeting booked and she phoned as she had just heard from a girl at her work that the venue (queensferry lodge in north queensferry, fife) is going into administration, now this girl is meant to be getting married this year and she told my best friend that shes lost her deposit and is gutted. But my friend said she doesnt know if she's making it up or not, and as she knew thats where i want to get married and am meeting them next week she wanted to warn me about what this girl has said.

Now i dont know what to do.....is there any way to find out if a company is going into administration or not?! i dont wanna book my wedding then this happens, i know im prob rambling and it isnt that relanvent as i havnt actually booked anything yet but anyway.....

any advice appriciated, i knew only hitched would understand....!

    Hi,

I suppose all you can do is ask them straight out at the meeting ? Or If it makes you feel more comfortable phone anonomously and say you have heard a rumour is it true ?? Could it be this girl is jealous and is trying to wind you up ??

With it being 3 years away, you could always go and get all the details and talk it all through but hang fire about parting with any deposit ? Or maybe have a look at some wedding insurance companies and see if they will cover you that far in advance, just so you have the protection in place should the worse happen.

    Good Luck !

Edit Just read Bluewaters post and I think I would possibly hang fire for 6 months or so to see what happens, but I am super cautious anyway !!

Hmmmm that's up to you. if you do decide to book it, i would certainly make sure you get insurance in case a buyer for folio isn't found (there might be more up to date information out there, don't know where, but it's probably as easy as googling it....)

personally i wouldn't take the risk. plus you might find somewhere else you prefer in the next 3 years.....

    I dunno what to do,

Iv now googled it and all its saying is the company is buisness as usual until a new buyer is found.

I might just be straight and ask next week. at the end of the day what would happen if a new buyer came in it would mean my contract could be changed and i wouldnt be happy with that at all.

I dunno what im gonna do. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction though.

And bear in mind that if it is bought over, the new company may want to redecorate/redevelop certain areas of the hotel, and may look and feel very different to how it will be when you get married. our hotel redecorated the main reception room just after we booked it without even telling us they were planning to do so (as it happens, it looks even better, but this might not have been the case)

also bear in mind staff turnover - we booked ours partly on the strength of the wedding coordinator. is that person going to be there in 3 years?

i guess what i'm trying to say is that you have aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaages so don't rush into booking anything, just so you can say you have the date booked.

    ? I know its aggggeeeessss away.lol.

I am a very organised person and picked this venue last year and its the only venue i really want, iv looked at loads others in the area and its the one i really like.

it would be nice if they do re-decorated.....some area could use a touch of new wall paper.lol.

i havnt even met the co-ordinator yet so its def not for her, its just the hotel and its location, the main suite upstairs has these AMAZING views out over the forth and the bridges, thats what seals it for me. and great spots for photos.

The girl who lost her deposit,im friends with her brother so iv just bit the bullet and emailed him to find out the truth of whats going on, as all the websites say buisness as usual, so i'll find out soon enough.
