Runners - your sock of choice?

Janna, 15 June, 2009 at 13:03 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 8

My husband is a long distance runner and wears just normal run-of-the-mill trainer socks. As a result he gets blisters. So I'd like to buy him some 'proper' running socks. Trouble I know so little about running that I don't know where to start. Google is throwing up so many results that I'd prefer to start with some recommendations. That's where the Hitched Running Oracle comes in (I hope)

I thought the Asics socks that came free with my trainers were the best socks I've ever worn for running. Loved them so much I went and bought another three pairs. I used to get very rubbed on the ball of my foot and these have a bit of extra wadding there. But the blister reduction may be because I've found a trainer that fits properly. When I ran seriously in my 20s our team had trainers made for our feet. That all stopped when I got old, though, so I've only ever bought off the peg since.

Which is a wordy way of saying he might have to try a few...

I use 1000 mile socks and they are fabby. I use normal trainer socks for runs of upto approx 5 miles and they are ok. But for long runs I use the 1000 milers. They are double skinned and guaranteed blister proof!

LOML has some Falke ones which I covet. I use cheap ones for anything up to about 10k, and 1000 mile ones thereafter.

I don't run long distances (unless you cound 5km ?) but I have these great ones from Aldi. I think they were 2 or 3 quid and are just as good as the 10 quid ones i bought from the running shop.
