Running!

claires, 3 April, 2008 at 08:53 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 15

After Spacecadets post yesterday, i said i wanted to join in as i have decided to do Race for Life

well, last night i went running, for the first time in probably 12 years!!! I am a bit over weight and never do any exercise, but we went out for half an hour and i ran for about half of that, fast walked the rest. I am really rather proud of myself as was my OH!?

Going to go out 3 times a week now to try and build up my training

My little legs are aching this morning so i know i had a good workout!?

Well done you! Did you stretch/warm down afterwards? If I do a warm down walk or 5 mins of stretching I tend to find I don't get achey limbs any more so that may help. Walk/run is fab, start with small runs and then every three sessions or so increase your run time. I'm on 3 mins run, 1 min walk for my next session tomorrow - when I first started I found 1 min run, 2 mins walk nearly killed me!

I find the hardest bit is actually getting out there, once I'm doing it I quite enjoy myself.

Yep did all the stretches etc my OH was a soldier up till beginning of this year so he was acting like a sergeant major!

I was quite up for it last night so hoping i continue to as i do tend to give up quite easily? i am hoping it will help with my weightloss as well, it should do shouldnt it?

The first one is the hardest too. Soon you'll be doing 10ks/HMs with the best of 'em ?

Hi Claires, I went running for the first time last night too and it almost killed me!

Defo agree that the hardest part is putting your trainers on. Once I was out I loved it although I'm sure I looked like Pheobe off the episode of Friends where Racheal is too embarrassed to run with her. Good job it was just me and the dog then![:I]

My H knows how much of a miserable cow I can be when I'm feeling fat and frumpy so he encourages it now too!

    Well done claires!

Thanks for the link Spacecadet ?

Have just printed it off and will hopefully start this next week.

Ran for the first time at the gym this morning in 20 weeks (had an op so had to refrain) and I managed 5 minutes. I felt fine but my ankle started to hurt so I though I best stop.

Claires (or anyone)...do you have a recommendation for a good sports bra? The one I wear is okay for the gym but I am thinking I am gonna need something a lot more supportive once I hit the road and do longer distances.
