Running (dull for the rest of you)

Iris, 15 April, 2008 at 22:30 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 14

Hello runners.?

How are we all? I'm doing a 10k race on Sunday and (touch wood) so far I'm uninjured. Unfortunately my brother has had to drop out as he's injured- broken rib or some such excuse? So, I'm feeling quite upbeat about it at the moment. Oh and if anyone's up for a 10k on Sunday I have a number going begging.

    What a rubbish excuse?

Going okay, really need to enter a race to challenge myself. I keep running in my comfort zone of 2/3 miles and am too scared to go further in case I cant do it and let myself down[:I] Although I have done a 4 mile a couple of times. Went to body attack tonight so am going to give myself a day off tommorrow.

I have, on the bright side. lost all my baby weight plus half a stone on top of that?

Good going nickynackynoo. Body attack is a great fat burner too isn't it? My fave class ever.

I really love it, started BA 60 tonight and found it pretty hard going but enjoyed the routine. Do you do Body Combat as well?

I do combat now and again, I tend to alternate it with circuits. I do attack twice a week, we've been doing 60 for a couple of weeks now- it's hard work but I quite like it.

I finished my learn to run plan which I'd done on a treadmil and ventured outside for some real running at the weekend. I wasn't sure how I'd fare without the speed being set for me.

Did a gentle 1 lap of the central park reservoir on Saturday and 2 laps of it on Sunday (it's 1.577 miles). I ran with H on Sunday who complained that I was faster than him (I did the first lap in roughly 15 mins) and that his legs ached yesterday! ?

Im trying to run twice a week and go to combat/attack twice also. I would like to get back into spin but I never have the time. Back at work full time and have the baby.

Dont feel I am getting enough variety and it is affecting my fitness

Must be hard with working full time. I manage 3 classes, 1 gym and 2 runs but only because I only work 4 days a week and my baby is now 4 years old. Variety seems to be the key.
Mind you, if I worked fulltime and had a baby I'd be knackered before I started?

I work shifts so I think that makes it a bit easier. I did do step but got a bit bored with the instructors routine. I will get back into step I think.

You sound like you fit a lot into your week?

I can't do step, I have no co-ordination at all. I just stand there looking gormless.[:I]

<scurries in late to running update>

Good luck with the 10K on Sunday Iris ️?

Running is going well with me, just over 5 weeks (?) till race day. I'll do 10M today, which is the longest mid-week run I'll do, thankfully. This week's long run is 18M on Sunday, so you can expect to see me in here on Sunday morning whinging and procrastinating ?

I've now started a running group at work and took my first victims volunteers out for a run/walk last night and they loved it! It's also renewed my enthusiasm for running, and the fact that it's nice slow running means that it's ideal "recovery" running for me, keeps everything nice and loose.

    Yay for running.

Good luck on Sunday Iris! Knock 'em dead - I bet you get a PB.

I'm about to start running again after lots of injuries. I'm going to see a chi-running instructor next weekend who should be able to help sort out any underlying bio-mechanical issues I have. I'm also going to go back to the running shop to try some new shoes to see if that helps. I have a ickly pickly 5k on 7th May and a 10k at the beginning of July so hopefully I'll be back to fitness for those.

It's a form of running that ensures that you are running "naturally" and therefore are way less prone to injury. I've been recommended it by a few runners. Apparently, because you mid-foot strike and run more lightly your shoes can last 1000 miles!

Ah, I see, thank you. Loving the frugality of 1000 mile shoes!
