What happened? I must have missed something again!

I think it's sadder that there were a LOT of distressed Hitchers yesterday because of the comments made by one person.

I was online yesterday and completely missed this?

I've had a look at the thread that I'm guessing triggered it but obviously all his comments have been deleted but they must have been extreme to have led to this. hope everyone is ok

I was on most of yesterday I don't think I saw anything offensive did I miss a thread totally or am I just thick skinned? Or just thick? :-(

A lot of people will have missed it because it was over on OT. Not many WP'rs venture over there.

It was over in OT. It wasn't an argument as such. It was more someone refusing to apologise for upsetting people. I think that's what made it worse. The fact that the person wouldn't apologise.

I didnt see any of this either and glad tbh, i am a bit thick when it comes to the internet and only realised there was a whole load of other forums on hitched 3 days ago when i found baby talk i never scrolled down before? x

I wasn't about but I heard it "through the grapevine" so to speak.

The person who shall not (but probably has by now) be named is more than half the reason I stepped away from this forum for a couple of months.

I have now just read aformentioned thread and am disgusted so very glad hitched have sorted it, its not the first time offence has been taken at that persons comments x

Without discussing too much - i know there are rules about this - can someoen briefly recap what happened?

Ive posted a few time but not really introduced myself, i will but not now, for the past few months i have been a hitched stalker and lurker!

I read the threads last night and was disgusted also. It is very close to my heart at the moment and at 2.40 this morning i had the phone call from my mum to say that my aunt, who i am very close to, had lost her battle with cancer.

I am not sad to see the offender suspended over such callous words!

So sorry to hear this. I don't know how much you read of the thread but I lost my aunt to cancer in 2003. She'd never smoked a cigarette in her life. I think, in the past, he could be given the benefit of the doubt for some of his comments through lack of experience and social skills. But on this occasion he went a step too far.

I too have lost several close family members to the big C and some smoked, it's shocking the comments made. If someone had said that to me in real life they would've got a punch in the nose!

I think it's time to let this drop now. The thread has disappeared from OT. AJ is no longer able to defend himself (if any defence was possible).

No. Unless their computer code thingy has been blocked (can't remember the technical term for it). But even that will only stop them logging on from the computer that's blocked.

I just last week got the all clear for a cancer that is hugely prevalent in my family. I have been genetically tested and carry the gene for breast cancer and every female in my family on my mums side has had it/gets it so its a waiting game on that one for me.

This is a dreadful situation to be in. Have you talked through the full set of options with your GP/genetic counsellor? It doesn't have to be a waiting game - you can be proactive.

Blocking the IP Address is not necessarily as simple as that. IP Addresses can be "dynamic" ie they can change if you disconnect your router or your ISP has a small IP Address Pool. Some ISP give their customers Static IP Addresses, which do not change, so blocking it would work in that case.

Again, using another location would get around that, or even using a mobile 3g dongle.

After the backlash (totally justified in my opinion) I would hope that they wouldn't want to come back? If it was me (which it wouldn't have been as I don't have extreme views) this would be the last place I would want to come back to after all that has been said and done.

The trouble with forums is context is lost and totally open to interpretation of each individual reader online which is why you see so many people sitting on the fence without any real opinion.

AJ's probably reading this thread and is flattered by the fact that people are still talking about it. Perhaps we should lay it to rest now? I certainly don't want to satisfy his ego any longer, by continuing to talk about him now he's gone.
