Sandals honeymoon?

MrsLBtoB, 5 August, 2015 at 11:50 Posted on Planning 0 10

Just wondering if anyone has been away with Sandal's before and what your experience has been?

We are seriously considering booking 1 week in Antigua and 1 week in St Lucia for our Honeymoon but would be good to see if anyone has been before and what its like and also whether it is worth the money??

So we haven't booked a Sandals honeymoon, but we went to a Sandals resort in St Lucia (La Toc) last year and there were hundreds of honeymooning couples!

From what I gathered (and we had a similar experience even though we weren't married!) it was lovely. They treated us very well, always asking if we were celebrating a special occasion, everyone was very friendly and making a fuss.

Would recommend! - only reason we probably won't go there for ours is that we did a lot of the island and would rather go somewhere new/different.

I'm actually just trying to decide the same thing. Reviews of sandals resorts look great and love the idea of a pampered relaxing time.
My only reservation is whether you can get other resorts in the same places cheaper which are still as good as sandals. Also curious to hear people's experiences of being on honeymoon with lots of other honeymooning couples - weird, or makes it extra special?

St Lucia was really nice. We went for a fortnight in March, so the weather was fine. I think we had one or two showers, but they were in the afternoon and it was warm rain so we hid the books, put the towels underneath the loungers and went for a swim!

We did an island tour in a jeep which was really cool, went through Castries, did a 'zip line' tour in the jungle and did a tiny bit of shopping.

For the most part, though, we stayed on resort and relaxed.

The people there are all friendly; however we were a little wary of the ones we met off resort. We were never in danger; however they were often asking for money and if you do go shopping, they tend to hover and try and make you buy something.

Food at La Toc was really good, the amenities were fine and all of the staff were so friendly and helpful. One thing to possibly bear in mind is that we were 'lower end' visitors - while booking they try and get you to upgrade to a 'butler' style room, where you have someone to save you loungers and book your meals and bring you drinks. We didn't notice any significant difference (apart from having to get up earlier to get a lounger), but some of the reviews we read online said that you're treated worse and looked down upon.

Major benefit: even though we were at La Toc, Sandals offer a 'stay at one, play at three' thing (I think that's the catchphrase) where you can visit the other two resorts, eat, swim, play there and then come home later on. The minibuses were regular (once/twice an hour) and free.

Oh, and this might be the case at all all-inclusive resorts (this was the first and only one I've been on) but we had to give them our credit card details while checking in. They didn't accept cash at all on site, so we were stuck with a load of East Caribbean dollars that we couldn't use! Also, don't bother with the ECD - if you're going to take money, take US dollars.

I'd say 80% of the visitors there are American, if that makes any difference to you at all.

Enough from me, I'm sorry if I've bored you!

MrsEdisToBe - very jealous of you! You're going to have an amazing time! Which resort are you staying at?

ExpensivePinkCakes316 - as I said previously, we weren't honeymooners but everyone else seemed to love it that loads of people were in the same boat. Lots of friends were made Smiley smile

This is actually why I mentioned that a lot of the people there were American - I absolutely loved it that they were so friendly and wanted to talk and play volleyball and go out to dinner together, but (generalising a hell of a lot here) British people tend to keep themselves to themselves...

Not quite sure on value for price, all I can say is that we really, really enjoyed it.

Nice. We went there a few times and ate at the Italian restaurant. Can't remember the name... although I can remember that the food was so good.

Oh, I'm jealous. Can I come as well? I promise it won't be awkward at all ?

Thanks all - I think we are swaying towards a week in St Lucia and a week in Antigua - hoping to book soon!

Sandals have a stand at the National Wedding Show in Sept in London - I would assume they will offer some form of discount/special offer for booking? Does anyone know??

I'd definitely say that they would have some offers on; I haven't been to the National Wedding Show but we are doing Sandals Ochi in Jamaica in November ? We'd booked last September but then our travel agent at Virgin rang us to say that they had bought a 2 for 1 deal out that saved us £500 by just jiggling our dates around by a week to make sure we got the deal! So worth it as it means we're going premium economy seats both ways - more for less is always good!
