Santorini - Anyone got any experience?

jellytot, 9 June, 2009 at 13:43 Posted on Honeymoons & Getting Married Abroad 0 11

Hi, I haven't been on hitched for quite a while, but I'm now looking into wedding ideas and thought I could count on hitchers to help!

Has anyone been to, got married in, been to a wedding in, or have any experience or information about Santorini?

Hi Bec, thanks for the message. First of all congratulations!

I am at the very early stages of looking for somewhere to get married and Santorini has really caught my eye. I've been looking at packages with Thomson and First Choice, but I have no recommendations.

If you don't mind can you tell me who you're organising your wedding through? How many people have you invited and have you managed to accommodate them all in the same hotel? Are you having a church service, or a civil service?

Sorry about all the questions but I'm a total novice at this wedding organising and I really don't know where to start! I seem to have started with arguements of who we'll be inviting and how intimate it will be.

Any info you have I'd be grateful.
    Thanks in advance.

Hi Jellytot....not been on for a few days!

I've booked my wedding with a planner out there, partly as I'd originally booked with Kosmar and it was all cancelled as they went bust!! I can honestly say they have been fabulous. You get a much bigger choice on flowers / venues etc than I had with Kosmar, and Michael and Elena who are the planners have been fabulous.

Thanks so much for all the info and links I'll have a really good look into that. I had just wanted parents there too, however OH has kids that have to come with us too.

Thanks again Bec, I appreciate your reply.
I'll let you know if I decide on anything. The photos look gorgeous.

    Hi there

Had honeymoon in Santorini and thought it was absolutely blissful.

Stayed at Sunrocks (www.sunrocks.gr) in one of the honeymoon suites and I would highly recommend it. It's in Firostefani, about 20 minutes stroll from the main town of Fira.

The west side of the island has the best views as it all overlooks the Caldera, so resorts such as Fira, Firostefani, Imerovigli and Oia will offer accommodation with the best views.

The island is fairly small, so I would suggest hiring a car to get to some of the smaller villages and beaches.

I totally loved santorini and think it would be a perfect wedding venue. If you want any pics from the holiday, just let me know.

    Hello! Smiley smile

You've made a great choice choosing Santorini for your wedding! I was there in the end of May and June and I got married at Agia Irene chapel with the help of a sweet wedding planner. We had 45 guests and she took care of the ceremony, accommodation, car rentals, paperwork, reception, cake, fireworks and she even arranged a nice volcano cruise for us at a very reasonable rate! Everybody was very happy and especially us, my husband and I. Our photos are absolutely fabulous! Please contact me if you need any details for your own wedding and here is her website, send her an e-mail to ask for prices and info, I'm sure you'll like her.

Many companies as well as travel agents now cater to do arrangements for memorable Santorini weddings. They understand the hardships that the couple faces in planning and arranging for everything that is needed for destination weddings. That is why wedding packages are now offered, opening an opportunity for the couple to focus on enjoying occasion rather than dealing with stresses of the wedding preparations. All the couple needs to do complete their paper work and bring along their entourage and prepare to celebrate wedding like no other. The great thing about Santorini weddings is that they provide the couple the most romantic spot in the world to celebrate their union while providing them with the perfect spot to spend their honeymoon

    Hi Jellytot.

I was a witness to my Fiance's sister's wedding in Santorini in Sept 2007. It was absolutely stunning! I think she had around 24 guests - there was a toddler there too. It was all booked through Thomas Cook and she couldn't praise them enough. I know they had their ceremony at Santo Winery - the backdrop was beautiful. If this is where you are planning to have your wedding, you have chosen a gorgeous place!

If you have any other questions, just ask! I'll try n help! xx

    Hi all,

I'm looking for a honeymoon destination in August 2011. Since you all are so impressed with Santorini, maybe it's ok to ask some questions?

Would you recommend to go in August (if it's over 30 degrees Celsius my skin won't take it)?

Is it mainly a beach destination? In terms of hiking or culture, would you leave the island for that or can we do it there?

    Which hotel was the best?

Was it very expensive? We're hoping to spend about 2000£ max for 2 weeks since I'm still a student.

If anyone has some pics or any tips for us, that would be amazing Smiley smile

    Anja
