Sartorial advice please

Mrs Magic, 6 June, 2009 at 17:02 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 5

I've finally got a skirt I love for my friend's wedding next this month. I had wanted a dress but my HH boobage has put most of them on the no pile for one reason or another.

(sorry about the bad photo)

I really wanted to wear colour but I do love this skirt and it's very flattering. The dilemma is what should I wear with it? It's a formal church wedding, reception and ceilidh. The skirt is 100% cotton.

I have these two black boleros/cardigans which I like but should I be brave and go for a colour? They can both be returned. I have black shoes and bag but I'm always happy to buy more. ? Any idea on tops? I'm guessing I should I go for plain white? I'm size 22.

All help would be gratefully received! ??

I like both the boleros - I'd guess the one on the left would be more flattering. I'd wear a white top but coloured shoes and a touch of the same colour in your jewellery if you feel like it. Orange would look good with the daisies on the skirt.

Thanks Sophie, that's a big help.

I wondered if I could get away with a black bolero and coloured shoes/jewellery/bag/button hole but wasn't sure. I could write what I know about fashion on a postage stamp ? so it's reassuring to know I wouldn't look a plum. My mum always said your shoes etc have to match a colour in your outfit but I don't want to look like I'm in mourning. ?

What about a top, bag, pash or shoes in some colour, turquoise or pink or some colour which would look good with whatever your colouring is?

I'd normally agree with your mum, but every time I do so on here I get called matchy-matchy and sloany and try-hard and all kinds of other dire insults ? Anyway bright coloured shoes are v fashionable at the moment so you'd be fine.

    Matchy-matchy ?

Thank you both. ? I feel much more confident now. I'll hit the shops with my mum next week so I can make sure all the accessories are the same shade. I'll refer Mrs Matchy-Matchy to Hitched if she has a fit. ? I'm not sure I could do orange but I'll certainly have a look. I'm guessing a nice shade red would be ok too?

Lovely skirt and I prefer the first bolera, I'm not keen on he second one at all!

I would go for a little black vest underneath, black bag and red shoes. I wore something similar a few years ago and it looked really nice. I then added in a black and white fascinator. I think just having the shoes in a different colour works well.
