Saucepan recommendations

policefox lyn, 17 August, 2008 at 20:53 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 11

As the title suggests!

Around 13yrs ago I bought the best pans I could afford. They've been really good and I've looked after them, however food always "catches" on the largest pan no matter how I cook and the medium sized one is starting to go the same way. They were stainless steel with copper bottoms and were made by Brabantia.

It appears that Brabantia no longer make saucepans though so I need to find another good (by my standards and budget) set. Unfortunately my budget now is pretty much what it was then- I want to spend around £100 on three pans. I haven't measured mine but I think I'd be looking at 20", 18" and 16". I'm Ok for small milk pans and frying pans.

I want something good quality that will last. Don't want non stick. Want sturdy handles that won't fall off. Le crueset is no good as they're too heavy for me.

Recs please. Thanks.

I have a set of the Anthony Worrall Thompson cookware....

And frankly I don't like it. Not what you were asking, but a wee informative.

I have the stainless steel Jamie Oliver ones and like them a lot. Heavy based, but lighter than Le Creuset which I covet, but can't lift.

I know you said you don't want non-stick but we have these and they're great.

We have the meyer analon ones and they are amazing! We got them on this offer but in store...

My mum had the old style set of these and they lasted family life for over 10 years, then I've had them second hand from her for 8 years!

ETA they are non stick but you can use metal utensils so for us the best of both worlds!

I'll second the jamie Oliver recommendation, although we have had to replace the saute pan after less than four years. However we have used it almost every day in those four years, so I suppose that isn't bad going really. Also, it's a non stick pan, so wouldn't affect you, the other "normal" pans are fab, come up sparkly clean and are light enough to lift even when full.

My Le Creuset ones are heavy, but I got them anyway because I really really wanted them and TBH they're not too bad.

Second on my list we're the Jamie Oliver ones.

I only said no to non stick as my current pans aren't non stick and they've lasted well. My experience with non stick has been very much at the cheapest end of the market so they haven't lasted.

Thanks to those of you that are saying non stick IS durable. Though blast you for giving me more to think about!

I don't use metal utensils (see, I told you I've looked after these current pans!)

    Thanks all.

I've gone for the Meyer Anolon ones on pink alien's Debenahms offer.

As I was looking, H came home and said the frying pan DOES need replacing so I thought that offer looked ideal, especially given two recommendations.

    Thanks a lot.

We have tefal pans that we've had for about 8 yeasr now - they are just as good as they were when we bought them for being non-stick etc.

Definately recommend them, but would buy them individually rather than a set so you can get exactly what you want.

Meyer Anolon or Circulon. Although I recently invested in a Jamie Oliver branded frying pan, which is rock solid and so non-stick I can cook an egg without oiling the pan.
