    Hello ?

We sent out save the dates 1 year in advance. We decided to do so because our wedding is a weekday so we knew most people would need to take at least one day off work so wanted to give plenty of notice.

I didnt do them, but wish I had. The more notice people have the better, esp like me, there are many coming from abroad & need to organise tiome off work, flights, get accomodation, transport etc.

Despite writing the wedding date in everyones Christmas cards, I still have everyone telling me they didnt think that was official as it wasnt a 'save the date card'! Many therefore didnt book anything on that alone.

I have been let down by the stationers & found out yesterday that the samples he was making a month ago, havent even been started! If I am very lucky, people might now get an invite within 4 weeks of the wedding.

Unless your wedding is within a few months, I'd def send save the date cards. Nothing fancy, print at home on coloured card & get a pretty hole punch to make them look nice.

We didn't do save the dates - basically to save money to go towards the invites and due to the fact that we only got engaged on 12th August last year, started planning wedding a week or 2 later and we get married on 16th April this year (8 weeks on Saturday).

We did, however, text/email/call most people around september and let them know we'd set a date and they'd be receiving their appropriate invite in due course.

I guess it depends on how far off you are getting married (if it's this year, i wouldn't bother, but if it's next year or year after then i maybe would) especially if you are having a weekday or peak season/bank holiday wedding.

We didn't send them. We are having a small wedding (50 guests) and we speak to most of them regularly, they knew the date and that they were going to be invited if they then chose to not keep the day free that was up to them.

We didn't bother with them - just seems like more expense to me. We let people know in person, or in a few cases by text what the date was and made it clear they were invited to the whole day. Ours is in the summer/school holidays so fully expect some not to make it but all the family and close friends will make it.

We didn't bother as our engagement is only nine months long so it didn't seem worth it.

Yeah we sent out STD cards as our wedding is August bank holiday Sunday. They were really simple - a pack of precreased cream coloured cards (which got cut in half) and envelopes (pack of 50 for £5 from hobbycraft) and put them through the printer. Hope the pic helps! The day, date, time and venue were on the back in the same font

I've sent mine, mainly because people will start booking next years holiday soon, our wedding in July so school holidays didn't want anyone missing it, & OH family all live down south so we dont have a great deal of contact with them all and they were only cheap from vistaprint x

We did and i wish we hadn't (not the cost - i made them so it was fine) - we are reasonably limited by numbers, so i sent out the definites, then my friend said her mum was upset cos she didn't get one, but i said there was family we had to invite first before friends parents, and then i got back in contact with some old friends who i then really wanted to come, and OHs family fell out with an auntie and uncle who now have a save the date but no invite - so unless there is room for a bit of chopping and changing, or its a popular date with holidays or mid week, etc i wouldn't send them - you can always call/e-mail the people you are definitely having, then its not so formal and less room for problems - although that may just be my nutty friends/family!!!!
