    Hi Sarah67

save the dates are normally sent about a year in advance especially if you have people coming from a far distance to you or your getting married at a very popular time of year ie summer.

I did mine 9 months beforehand. A year is prob ideal.

We were going to send them then didn't bother. Just sent my invites 6 months before the wedding. Worked out fine - out of 140 people only two have declined.

Thank you for this- I've looked in magazines, and they all seem to say to send them out 6 months ahead, which is when I'd like to send out invitations! Our guestlist is heavily from overseas, so a year in advance is so much better! Although, I admit, we're planning to order our save the dates as soon as we confirm our date and venue, which should be within the next week or so. Basically, I think we might end up sending out our save the dates 15 months before the wedding!

If you have overseas guests I see no problem in this at all.

We sent ours out 18 months and not having an abroad wedding and no overseas guests! People were driving us mad asking so I just whipped up some freebie ones off vistaprint and sent em out a few months after we got engaged to save all the questions.

Exactly this, except we sent ours about 15months in advance which was a few months after we got engaged and also combined with xmas cards to save on postage. Planning to send invites 5/6 months before. Our save the dates included the details of our wedding website so they could even book hotel rooms etc now if they want to (which some people were hassling us about already!)

Hi reading all your comments has put my mind at ease, we're getting married in May 2014 and where thinking of sending our save the date cards out in jan 2013, and then the invites novemberish 2013, that then gives us plently of time to chase up replies and let the venue know exact numbers etc. Im also going to put accomodation information on the save the date cards so people can save pennies and book hotel rooms if they want.

    Thanks once again people!
