Save the Date cards

Hollysmith123, 21 February, 2013 at 09:28 Posted on Planning 0 9

Hi, I am looking for some advice. When should I send these out? What information should I include? I have seen some with some cute poems on - what do you think? Also, do I send these to the evening guests as well? Any advice would be appreciated!

I think if you are going to send them out, you may as well do it as soon as you have booked the venue, so all your guests put it in their diaries. Not that I know the actual protocol on these things!

When I have got them, only basic information has been on there - your names, date of wedding and venue. A cute one we got was a fridge magnet.

I would say asap. We are only sending ours to day guests, then will do the evening guests just invites later one.

Just your names, perhaps where the wedding is (just the town perhaps) and the date I would say. We are also going to put RSVP slips in them as my family are a bit elusive and difficult to pin down.

    Hi

We are sending ours out about 12 months before the date, when we ask our bridal party to be our bridal party. We have done fridge magnets and they only have the date on. Basically say XX and XX are delighted to announce their marriage on XX. Further details to follow. Everything else can go on the invites which we are sending about June/July next year. We are also only sending them to day time guests (especially those that live quite far away).

Not sure if thats right, most of my family haven't seen a save the date before so like with everything else I think anything goes it depends on what you want and when you want to send them.

    xx

We only booked the wedding 11 months before the date so we sent them out pretty much straight away, mainly because we're getting married Easter Saturday and we wanted to give people warning. I don't see some of OH's family. Only send them to day guests.

We sent them out 10 months before, as it meant we could save postage and put them inside our christmas cards. It just had the date and the county we are getting married, so that those far away would be aware that they may need to factor extra days in for travelling, etc. It then said 'formal invitation to follow'.

Thanik you all for the advice. I have been to the National Wedding Show today and have seen some fantastic designs that my sister, who is a graphic designer. is going to replicate. We will stick with the date and town but no other details. Thank you again!

We have just done ours today and kept it very simple. We put our names, wedding date, county and a link to a wedding website we set up.

Do it how you would like Smiley smile

We had an engagement party in November and gave ours out on the night. I made little favour bags, you know like the striped sweetie bags with some personalised Love hearts, chocolate heart and their card. I made the cards like postcards via 'Vistaprint'. Do it whenever you want really. It also meant a couple of relatives who live far away or abroad could be pre warned iykwim early so as they old make their arrangements sooner. Hth. x
