Save the Date - Did you send?

Chidders, 3 February, 2011 at 13:17 Posted on Planning 0 23

Hello lovely peeps,

Another thread has triggered this....Did you send Save the Dates out? If yes, at what stage did you send them?

I am trying to decide if it is worth the cost, not that I have priced it up yet ? We have around 65 guests.

Thank you xxx

Yeah we did but Because we are on a budget but still wanted to make sure our long distance family could make it we sent a save the date email...we made it really fancy with pictures etc. Just how we would have made it in paper form.

It saved us the cost but helped everyone 'save the date'! Smiley smile

Nope we didn't....I see the point if you are getting married in, say two years time but as soon as we set the date last summer I just called nearest and dearest and emailed everyone else - then I knew if people could definitely not come instantly (which you don't get with save the dates as some people won't respond to them) AND we saved money on not having any made!

We didn't but we sent our invites out at 11 months to go, so they weren't really necessary.

The biggest part of anything, invites or save the dates, is likely to be postage if you're making them yourself.

We sent a save the date email & FBmail! No fancy pictures or anything. The thing is, we're having a weekday wedding and it's in the summer. So we need to inform them ASAP before they book any holidays (which some already did, sigh...).

They are a great way to let your guests know when the date is without having the rush of getting invitations out.

Fridge magnets are VERY popular at the moment and these are great to keep on a fridge so your guests will get a constant reminder.

I have a fab Save the Date on my site which can be designed to suit that is proving one of my most popular sellers at the moment. It doubles as a calendar for your guests to write their own notes on throughout the year.

You can see more details here

We will be sending them, mainly because our wedding is on a Friday, so need to warn people.

They don't cost much, Ebay, Vistaprint have some really cheap ones.

Hoping to send them out with 12 mths to go, although my friend gets married May 2012 (8 wks before us) and has already sent hers.

I will be sending them if i book a friday wedding as people need as much notice as possible to book days off work, and if your getting married around holiday season, i think its worth sending them as early as possible so you can give them as much notice as possible. email and facebook are ideal for keeping your costs down!

i would make a list of people who have email/facebook and send them a message and then anyone else send a card (i would buy some nice card and print them myself, or find a arty friend!)

Yep, we sent them a year before for three reasons 1 - we're getting married in August and lots of people go away, 2 - we're getting married on a thursday and people would need to get time off of work and 3 - we were saying no kids so wanted to give people plenty of notice of this (though we didn't put this on the save the dates my MIL 2B rang round the affected from OH's side and explained and I rang round my side and we spoke to friends)

I got mine from ZAVVI. They're awesome quality and cost about £50 for 50, they are invitation and envelopes, we sent one per household and only to the day guests.

We sent them about 10 months in advance (was aiming for 12!) because our families are all over the country, so I wanted to give them a heads up to when and where we were getting married.

We did Lego magnets, as that is our theme (The Lego, not the magnets!). I bought the Lego from the Lego website, got magnetic strip and glitter glue from hobbycraft, and the information stickers we had printed online.

To be honest I had never heard of them until I joined hitched!

We didnt send them - we do have guests who live far - Australia, Germany etc But we phoned or text them to remind them of the date around Sept so they could book their flights etc.

I'd say around 90% of our guests know they are getting an invite - friends, family etc.

We did because our wedding is Bank holiday weekend in August and wanted to make sure ppl would be able to make it so to give plenty of notice. We didn't do anything fancy though, I made them on the computer, printed them out and put them in the xmas cards.

We have sent ours out at the beginning of January for our December wedding. We only sent them because:

    • we have a lot of guests from abroad (USA, Romania, Norway) and many need ample notice to save as it is an expensive trip these days
    • we are getting married on 23rd Dec - so the day before Xmas Eve so again ample notice needed for holiday plans...

I had to send STD's because my wedding is the same day as the Beatles festival in Liverpool and hotels tend to be full 12 months in advance. I didn't want travelling guests to miss out on accomodation, so I made an arrangement with the Hilton and they are taking bookings from this week for August 2012.

    I only used Vistaprint though, I think I paid £15 for 100.

Mixed bag of replies. I seems more necessary if it was a weekday maybe. Ours is Sat 30th June 2012, which isnt a bank holiday, but it is in holiday season. Still undecided!

Yep we did, really glad of it considering my mum still hasnt finished the b**** invites lol! we just got some cheap cards and wrote in them save the date and the wedding venue. it means people can plan ahead in plenty of time holidays etc, it also made clear which peoples partners we're inviting, as we didnt really want to be inviting 'new partners' nearer the time. It also meant that people who want to be really organised with accomodation can arrange that too if they want, so i dont feel under as much pressure with the official invites as people know if they are invited or not anyway.

I think the general rule is that you send STD's if guests need to book time off or save up (IE holiday abroad). You could just send them to guests who are travelling?

We did but only because I got 50 free magnets (thought people could stick them on their frdge) from vistaprint, which everyone loved!

I manged to get 50 free about a month later and sent them out October time last year and we get married in May.

I like the idea of them as it gives people plenty of time to arrange holidays, baby sitter etc around the date and they also have a reminder before the invites go out.

We sent out our Save the Dates last summer to our day guests because we're getting married in August and it's a Friday. As I'm a teacher many of our guests work in schools and I didn't want them booking their summer holidays and missing the wedding! Other guests have had to book the day off work so have appreciated the notice we've given them.

Also, our invitations still aren't sorted yet! ?

We got some lovely magnets from ebay and it's great going round to people's houses and spotting them stuck to their fridges!
