Save The Date Ideas

SoonToBeMrsMacey, 24 September, 2012 at 21:38 Posted on Planning 0 13

Hi all,

I'm new to the forum, but not new to forums lol.

I have recently booked my wedding and I am interested to know when you should send out Save The Dates, to who and if anyone has some really good ideas on what we could do?

I like the idea of magnets, however a friend has already done this and I don't want to seem like I'm copying ?

    Hello and Welcome.

We sent our STD's out about 18 months before the wedding but that's super early I think the majority of people seem to go with around 12 months before.

I think the done thing is to give them to day guests only otherwise you are asking someone to 'save the date' when you actually mean just the evening...Although I know some people have done 'save the dates' and 'save the evening'

we just had STD business cards from vistaprint as they were free when we ordered our invites.

I know lots of people have had STD magnets, postcards, cards, CD's (with fav music), photo booth type, key rings. Lots of choice out there.

I saw someone with tea towels. That was quite novel, if very expensive!

I had tea towels for our main invites and magnets for STD. My bridesmaid said magnets were always a good idea as people stick them on the fridge and therefore don't forget the date or lose the card!

Don't worry you'd be copying as there are loads of different types of magnets you can get. I got thin ones from eBay for £12

    Hi!

We have thought about doing magnets too + also looked in to the tea towel idea as we wanted something that wouldn't be easily lost + therefore save the date! Tea towels are costly though whereas the magnets are a good price so think we will do that.

We had vista freebie magnets (it was originally going to be freebie business cards) and I will be sending mine out in the next couple of months for my Sept 2013 wedding. Think there is no hard and fast rule when to send STDs, but I agree that you should probably only send them to those you are planning on inviting to the whole day!

I do like the magnets as they can be put somewhere useful, the tea towels are a brilliant idea but depends on your cost. The world of STDs is your oyster really! Sorry I can't be more help on original ideas but I am not incredibly gifted in that department!

    Hi,

We are getting personalised stamps done via the royal mail website. You could use the fridge magnet idea but also personalise your envelope with the stamp...?

It's hard coming up with something that no-one else has done, sadly I think we would all struggle with that lol

Thanks for all your lovely ideas and suggestions guys Smiley smile

I think we will go with magnets, they're easy enough and as you say no one will lose them lol! I also love the personalised stamps too, that might make them really unique.

As I won't have to send mine out for another 20 months, I have plenty time to get looking around.

Can anyone suggest some good sites to get them done or somewhere you've used before?

I've been looking to send some STD magnets out for ours too (although I don't have do it for about 9 months). So far I've looked at ebay, they seem quite good there and quite a bit of choice.

Otherwise as others have mentioned Vistaprint, and other printing websites.

Sounds ideal, I think I'll have a look online and see where I can get the best prices as we need to send out between 70-80 for our daytime guests.

    Hey!
We are sending our STD' magnets next month. Which will be 12months till the big day!
We got ours done on vistaprint but I did my own design. Think it was about £26 for 50.
I like the idea of magnets as they're less likely to be misplaced!

    The stamps are called smilers

We did them once at work for our Christmas Party, we had our logo done. They looked really good. They aren't ridiculously expensive (although first class stamps have rocketed in price), but we're not sending out many invites so we should be ok.
