    Hi there

I sent mine out in September last year, and we got married in April - I reckon about 4-6 months, any longer and they may forget altogether. Unless people coming from abroad etc...

I sent mine out at christmas for a wedding in June 2013 - in hindsight that was probably a bit early but I think I just got a bit over excited with the wedding planning! I think if you know your friends/ family are likely to go to festivals/ long hols/ other weddings then it's probably best to do it sooner rather than later so the dates out there and you're booked in.

Yeah I sent mine out last week, wedding's in April. Probably rather early but then I have some friends and family abroad, and all his family have to come down from Scotland so there's no harm in sending them now. You've gotta think when you'll be sending your invites too, you don't want to bombard them with two lots of cards in the last few months before.

I sent mine out a couple of weeks ago for a wedding next September! Yes, it's early but it's abroad so people have to make arrangements. That's my excuse, and I'm not admitting I was just too excited!

If you need to send them at all, I'd send a year before. Any earlier and you risk people mixing up the date with this year (yes, people ARE that stupid!).

We're getting married in May 2013 and have sent out a save the date email already - but more so because we're getting married in Northern Ireland and most of the guests live in England so it would give them a chance to sort out cheapo flights. And there is a jazz festival in the city that weekend so we wanted to make sure everyone got booked into our hotel. It also gives you a chance to see if there are people who definitely can't come (we had 3) so we've been able to bump up 3 friends who were previously only going to be invited to the evening do.

But I'd say do it whenever you want!

We're getting married May 2014, and are looking to send our STDs May/June 2013. Our wedding is a Friday - the one before half term, and the following Monday is a bank holiday, so we want to make sure that we let people know before they start booking holidays.

Even though I'm desperate to send them out now, I think people would get them and think 'what's the point in telling us nearly 2 years in advance?'

I'll be watching this thread with interest as I was planning on sending our save the dates out in a couple of months time for our wedding in Sept 2013, I'd always assumed they went out a year before hand, now I'm not so sure...!

I was a bit cheeky and included them with people's Christmas cards (we did fridge magnets). Our wedding is 1st September so ~ 9 months before.

I think the norm is around a year before (give or take). We sent ours out about 10months before. But we are getting married at easter and on a week day, so wanted to make sure people knew in advance that they may need to take a day off work, and didnt go booking holidays!

I will be sending mine out as soon as they arrive (any day now), our wedding isn't until 13th July next year but 90% of our guests will be travelling from Cheshire to Derbyshire for it and lots have been asking me about hotels etc so I'm sending out hotel info with the save the dates.

Also I'm sooooooo excited I can't hang fire any longer.

We've just sent ours out and get married 30th March 2013. It's Easter Saturday so wanted to give people warning before they started booking holidays (or deciding what they'd rather do!) I'm also setting the date of my hen do now so people know it and can save if they want/need to.

We've just sent ours today (yaaaaaaaaaaaay!!!) and our wedding is 8th Jan 2013, think we maybe shouldve sent them a month or so ago but I rekon 6-8 months is a pretty gd time, I got so excited about sending them at about the 13 month mark but thought twice cos I got fed up with people saying 'whyyy you've got ages to go yet blah blah blah!!' :-P

I'm sending mine out after Christmas and we're not getting married until November 2013.

Reason i'm sending so early is that we are getting married on a Sunday so i want people to have plenty of notice for taking the following Monday off work should they wish to.

We've just ordered ours for our wedding on 24th May 2014 and we'll be sending them out as soon as they get here. It's a bank holiday weekend and we have a lot of family and friends travelling from Scotland and Wales so need to give them plenty of notice to book somewhere to stay. The venue is in a seaside town and for the same weekend next year nearly every room (out of 26 B&B's on one street right next to our venue) were booked out a couple of months ago. I know it's a bit early, but everyone knows it's 2014 not next year so we shouldn't get any confuson there, and I'll be chittering away about it all the time so none of them will be able to forget Smiley smile we've already had 2 of our best friends say they can't come as her brother is getting married on the same day, so we want to be there first with everyone else so they can all come. If you don't have lots of travellers or bank/school holidays to worry about then I'd say 9months - 1 year before is probably best so they have plenty of notice for getting time off work and not planning anything else, but also not too close to receiving the actual invitation x
