I think it depends on your wedding venue/who you are inviting. For example, I sent mine 9 months before...some people felt it was quite early but we are inviting family from abroad and our hotel only has 12 bedrooms so we wanted everyone to have enough notice. All the rooms are booked up now, and I haven't even sent out the invites. I like having that piece of mind that the venue is being used and people are actually going. I also think my family in oz appreciate being given time to save for such a big trip.

Agree with Frugal. Really depends on your wedding etc. Our Wedding is in October but because it's on a week day I am sending out a save the date email end of January with where and when because of people needing to get time off work if they are coming. I have then just mentioned official invites will be sent out later in the year.

When would you send the invites? I intend to send my save the dates sooner as I'm concerned that family may book holidays.

No harm in sending out as early as you want in my mind. As soon as you have booked the venue works well as then no one as any excuses for not knowing! At least then you can relax knowing people have the dates. Especially if its during the Summer holiday months.

We will be sending out invites Mid July and asking for RSVP's by mid August ready for our venue to need final numbers by end of August. Only because I thought if you give people too long to reply it sits in their house for weeks! Less time means they will probably just reply straight back to get it done!

My wedding is mid April and I planned to send my invites at the beginning of feb but I have noticed a few other April brides are already getting rsvps....so I think if you feel like you should be sending them then just do it. There is no harm and if it relaxes you then it's worth it. One less stress factor Smiley smile

I was thinking of sending out fridge magnet save the dates in a few months and invites closer to. My partners family have 3/ 4 holidays a year so the odds of them being away are quite high. Would kick myself if I left the save a dates till later and someone couldn't attend. x

I'm getting married in August and sent my STDs in October. I'm planning for the invites to go out late April/early May.

I'm just too excited to get stuff done haha!

We are going for fridge magnets so that people dont forget

Quick question tho....do you send save the dates to everyone, wether its just the reception or the whole day??

I suppose it depends on when your wedding is. Our is July, last weekend of, so people are likely to have booked holidays and stuff, we'll prob send ours about a year in advance...if it's a weekday, people need to book holiday etc.

We are getting married this May, send STDs last July/Aug

Sent a bit early as a) have a load of overseas relatives coming, b) it's a Friday so will require time off (esp advance booking for OH's teacher relatives) and c) a lot of my firends travel A LOT, so needed to get in there before they booked anything!

Invites going out in 2 or 3 weeks Smiley smile

I think if you are sending them to evening guests you need to make it clear on the STD that it is an evening invitation, otherwise they may make unnecessary arrangements etc and be disappointed when they "only" get their evening invitation later on.

I usually suggest around a year in advance but there is no harm in getting them out earlier if needed be.

I sent my Save the Dates out about 11 months in advance but only sent them to day guests. My invites are going out pretty soon but only because I want to know how many bedrooms are getting booked as it'll make a difference as to whether or not we go for exclusive use or not.

We sent our STDs a year in advance and the invites 4 months in advance. We're having a Friday wedding so wanted to give plenty of notice to people to book time off
