save the dates??

The future Mrs G, 22 January, 2014 at 17:56 Posted on Planning 0 16

Hi

I am just wondering who is sending save the dates? Do you think they are important to have? We were planning not to send them and just send out our invites quite early but now I am having second thoughts and am worried people will expect save the dates! Is anyone else not having them?

Thanks :-)

We didn't send any but let everyone know our date via email / Facebook. We wanted to save money and that was an easy thing to cut.

We'll be sending them as soon as we book, but only because it will be about a year's wait between booking and ceremony so want to make sure everyone knows.

We're not, but then our ceremony guests are all family and already know the date so don't need them and our reception is the following saturday so I'm hoping that, being a late september wedding, most people will be able to make it. Our wedding is also a budget affair so costs are of prime importance ?

We didn't send any, not a lot of guests so they all know the date, but probably wouldn't have bothered with them anyway Smiley smile

Thanks everyone, think I'm going to stuck with not sending them and just letting people know by email or text. Should help us save some money!

Because we're getting married abroad we wanted to give people as much notice as possible so we actually sent electronic save the dates using a site called Paperless Post. Recipients receive an email of the envelope with their name on it and then when they click on the envelope it opens and the save the date pops out. It's a cost effective alternative to printed save the dates.

Hello! I have just ordered some save the dates having initially decided not to do them. they arent a neccessity really.

my friend designed mine and i then went to the Moo printing website and ordered 30 postcard style for about £26 including delivery. about 80 people will be attending the whole day but i ordered a small amount to give to friends and family who will be attending without doubt. so much can change in a year (we are 10.04.15) that only those who are a constant in my life are getting one. So grandparents, aunts and uncles, close family friends etc. just so they have something concrete and those that are abroad have got a definite date to book travel for. i have elderly family in france so thought it would be nice plus my grandma has dementia and i thought it would be nice for her to stick on her fridge or something to have as a continual reminder.

weddingchicks.com have printables for free that you can customise on their website. you could always buy nice card and print/cut them and pop them into envelopes!

I plan to send some once we book our venue as my fiance's parents go away alot over the weekends etc. so we want to make sure they definately don't book that weekend up! Plus my Aunty is hopefully coming over from New Zealand so she will need to know asap so she can book flights!

But I plan to make them myself - with the help of my mum as she's very creative with these things even on a tight budget! I definately wouldn't pay a lot for them and think if I wasn't doing them myself I'd let people know by email/facebook.

We didn't send them but we did send our invitations quite early instead (6 months before).

When is your wedding? If it's a weekday or in the middle of kid's school holidays I'd consider sending them.

The wedding is a Saturday (the 21st) in Feb 2015. Don't think it will be a busy time for people going away. Was thinking of sending the invites around October. Do you think this would be early enough?

I think that's absolutely fine to be honest.

for your RSVP date - make sure you double check with the venue when they need your final numbers and add a good few weeks onto that for chasing straggling responses.

I ordered our save the date cards within 2 weeks of getting engaged, not sending them until 1 year before the wedding, so May this year... and realised I have ordered far too many!

They were a very reasonable price though, £12.50 for 25, I have ordered 50 and I think I will be about 20 left over. Never mind! I was excited and it was a bit of an impulse buy... but at least I will make sure I have some to keep as a keepsake.

We've sent them, it's a smallish wedding so didn't really need to but most of the guests aren't local so thought I'd make sure they have a reminder! We made out own though, nice and cheesy with a photo of us and text on! I was really happy with the design and it didn't cost a penny! Well we'll need some new ink for the printer a bit sooner, lol!
