Save the Dates? Flash me ladies

JST, 2 September, 2010 at 11:23 Posted on Planning 0 27

Is everyone sending out save the date cards? My other half, being a man, cannot see the point at all. But I have booked my venue and am BURSTING to do something else for the wedding! If you are sending them out when are you doing it? Do feel free to flash me your pretty things, you can feed my addiction.

Also invitations - I love, love, love looking at wedding stationery, it is my number one google search phrase at the moment. Are you having stationery to match your theme? I think our theme is blue and yellow but I've seen some lovely red invites. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Ooooh and when are you sending out actual real invites?

I am laughing at myself, over thinking everything as usual!

Hi! I'm new to the forum and I feel exactly the same way! We haven't booked a venue but we've set a date (Feb 2012) and I think I will need to send out STD cards to keep me occupied! Mine will match my colour scheme (white/burgandy) - I'm making all of my stationary so it's easier to buy everything I need in bulk. I think the STDs will be simple, A6 single sided, white card layered on burgandy. Need to make some prototypes first to see what H2B thinks though!

Must at least wait until we've booked a venue...

Hi! I designed my own STDs too because we have a bit of a Sci Fi theme going on (hence the weird wording, all adapted from Babylon 5!) and I couldn't find anything premade that was quite right.

Here are ours. We uploaded the design to Vistaprint and had them printed as postcards - got 100 cards plus envelopes for under £15!

My OH favourite saying whenever I mention anything weddingy is 'its over a year away'. But tmoorrow it will just be a year- HA! Now I can start proper planning!

As for save the dates, despite thinking all my friends know the date, they dont really - its on our radar but not theirs, so its good to put something firm in place. I will be sending mine out next month for a September 2011 wedding.

    Very excited!

Haven't got a pic of mine at the moment but ordered mini magnets from vistaprint. H2B originally said it was too early to send now and we should wait til Christmas but I think he understands the concept now (plus we had one through post for a wedding AFTER ours which helped!)

Oooooooooooooooooooooh yes Nat that sounds fab! We are having a midnight blue and light yellow theme and I just can't find anything I like in those colours. And with it being bonfire night I quite fancied something involving fireworks but again cant find anything like that... Shall I email you more details?

Sorry Im with your OH on save the dates. I know they can be really fun but TBH just cant see the point. Everyone knows the date already and so the invite is just a formality. In answer to your question about colours all our stationary will match our colours and theme, infact my MIL is in the middle of designing them now. I know how exciting it is when you reach the year to go point and trust me everything will start to speed up now, feels like yesterday i was where you are and now have just under 6 montsh left.

I design save the dates to suit most of my invitations usually as magnets, cards or tags, but I also have a few 'special' ones if you were looking for something more quirky...

My OH also has the same view point on STD cards/ magnets. He thinks it is a bit pointless but he says if I think it is a good idea, then he is happy with it. I like the idea of them but do you send them to all guests, day and night? And when is the appropriate time to send them??

We are only having about 15-18 people at the ceremony, which is at our local registers office and we are still to decide on a venue for the reception. Me and my OH want something a bit more upmarket whereas my dad has suggested the local social club (Smiley atonished) to save money. This isn't exactly what we had in mind and as we are paying for it, I need to tell my dad that we are quite happy spending a little bit more on a venue. Because of this, I can also see my dad thinking STD cards are a complete waste of time and although it shouldn't bother me if he thinks that, it just does Smiley sad

... But that is a completely different story!! Smiley smile

Save the dates are by no means essential but can be useful if the wedding falls during a peak holiday time or a weekday to give guests prior warning of the date if booking holidays or time from work. Generally they are sent to day guests only. Some people choose to send them to evening guests too but if you do, make sure they are aware it is for the evening only. Most of my clients send them between 18 months - 9 months before the wedding (average seems to be about 12 months) with the invitations following about 4 -2 months prior to the wedding date. They also don't need to match everything else if you don't want them to or are undecided about colours/themes at that stage.

Thanks for the advice. I think I am definately going to send STD cards out to the day guests as it is in the school summer holidays and I guess the earlier they are sent out, the better chance we have of all the people we would like to be there being able to make it.

    Thanks again x

Thank you! We bought them from a seller called personal touch. I believe they were £9.99 for 20 plus the envelopes to send them in. They were really helpful and had quite a few more designs plus they sent me a proof e-mail before making them up so I could make sure they were exactly as we wanted x
