Save the dates- is this a rubbish idea?

irrelephant, 8 June, 2011 at 18:38 Posted on Planning 0 9

Basically Tesco are doing a 40 free photo prints and all you have to pay is the £1.99 P&P (so i'd use one of my addresses to get 40 and then Mr DWC's address to get another 40 although We don't need 80 so might just get the free ones plus x amount for x amount) I have an absolute all time favourite photo of me and Mr DWC on holiday a few years back and I edited it to look like its a Polaroid photo. I've added on some text on the white bit at the bottom that says Save the date! Then i'm planning on handwriting something on the back of each one along the lines:

Dear x, y and z

We're getting married!

Please pop the date in your diary for the 18th of August 2012.

We'll send you an invitation and more information nearer the time.

Love from

DWC and Mr DWC

I can get them printed in 6x4 or 5x7 and get plain white envelopes to pop them in. Is this a rubbish idea? will people think we're cheap?

I think it's a really good idea, we have just sent out our save the dates, which I got off of ebay, 48 for £17. They are fridge magnets credit card size and just said:

    Save the Date

    for the wedding of

    me and h2b

    30th June 2012

    formal invitation to follow.

Everybody loves them and thinks the fridge magnet idea is great because then they can't lose them.

Why would people think you were cheap... they don't know how much it cost you unless you tell them! I think it's a fab idea! Plus the handwritten bit will be nice and personal.

PS: you are getting married on my birthday?

    Thanks!

i didn't know if people might think it was a bit crap getting a hand-written card, because some people like to receive the really posh invites and stuff.

FMJ, i think you're right that its a personal thing to do, handwriting it to each person/family to tell them about it. Off to order them now then Smiley laugh seeing as I don't have to wait for the date to be confirmed.

Also with making it a magnet, most people I know don't have magnetic fridges anymore? Plus its just a bit of an extra expense so not sure i'll bother making them into magnets.

You can always send "posher" invitations. Our Save the Dates were fridge magnets and not particularly posh whereas our invitations were much more formal. I see Save the Dates as a bit of an opportunity to have some fun Smiley smile
