Save the dates? Should we?

Meg101, 29 April, 2017 at 13:00 Posted on Planning 0 5

I'm not getting married until October 2018 and I wasn't planning to do invites until January 2018 but people keep asking for save the dates.

I researched this and couldn't fit it into our budget so I just figured I'd tell everyone the date but apparently this isn't enough. Perhaps we could do an e-card but I think some relatives don't use the internet. Also, is an e-card OK you think or does anyone have a website they can recommend which can do this?

Your save the dates wouldn't have to be expensive. Many people don't bother though - I wanted to do them as our wedding is during the summer holidays, and as I am a teacher as well as many of my friends, I wanted to make sure the most important people had the date in their minds early before they go booking their summer holidays! I ordered 50 magnetic business cards from Vistaprint for under £20 and was able to give most of them to people in person to cut down costs.

Unfortunately, I don't have experience of doing it online, although I do know that that is becoming a very popular method. My cousin received a very fancy interactive invitation a while back!

Whilst they don't have to be expensive don't feel pressured to send them.

We are getting married in November this year, so out of season too and haven't sent save the dates. We haven't sent invites yet but plan to send them at the end of this month or early June so it'll be around 5.5 months to go. I put a note in the Christmas card of some relatives but maybe only about 10. To be honest I just didn't see the point as we had verbally told a lot of people it was November 2017 and I think it's unlikely people would be on holiday so we didn't want to spend the money. We also don't live near most our family so it would be postage costs too.

We're getting married in April next year but my family need to travel 300 miles to get here, we did save the dates and sent them out April this year. I really wanted to do them as cheap as possible, I managed the 25 I needed for less than £10 including postage!

I bought a save the date rubber stamp for £3.50, some little luggage tags from amazon for £2.50, printed the details onto red card I already had and attached the tags (With the stamped logo) I gave most out by hand but had to post 6 envelopes (I put a lot of my relatives in one to my grandmother and sent some home with my mum when she came to visit) I also have enough tags left for place cards at the reception.

    Sorry it's massive

Thank you for the Vistaprint idea! I've ordered a few magnetic business cards just to give to relatives and friends who ask

Ours were about £50 for the day guests. I bought them because our wedding is the first day of the Scottish summer holidays and I wanted to make sure people had a reminder. If they book a holiday then we'll miss them but they know they're missing the wedding.

Personally I would only do them if your wedding fell over a holiday period. It's money that can be better spent elsewhere!

Try having a look on eBay. We got ours from there, a really plain & simple design which we added a bit of sparkle to ourselves. It cost about £12.50 for 50 cards & we had lots of compliments on them Smiley smile They don't have to be anything fancy or expensive & I think you could get them in varying quantities if you only wanted to send a few to some relatives that don't have internet access.
