Saving for My Big Day

MrsHD2015, 20 November, 2013 at 12:41 Posted on Planning 0 6

Hi everyone!

I know this isn't exactly wedding specific but I wanted to ask if anyone had any tips about savings accounts? Mainly Instant access savings? I want to start saving at the start of next month for my dress and bridesmaids etc. but i need a savings account where I can instantly access my money so that when I do decide to make a purchase I can do it from my savings! Does anyone know of any good savings accounts where I can do this? I have looked at Lloyds Easy Saver account which I think looks quite good (I am with both Lloyds and Natwest for my current accounts) but I wanted to hear some feedback first before i decide on anything!

Any tips or advice would be great!

I would just set up a flexible / e-saver on your current account, might as well go for the most convenient option.

Any "easy" savings account will do. You aren't going to earn shedloads of interest or anything, so zero point in bothering to compare too many options. I used a Lloyds Easy Saver for my wedding fund, mostly on their instruction, as they weren't comfortable with my current account balance being so high coupled with the possibility of someone stealing my debit card.

I have an ING Direct account (which is now Barclays Direct). I have several different accounts under this one account and money transfers into my current account same day - usually within an hour I think.

We just set up an easy savings account with our joint bank account first direct, paid the money in monthly from the joint account by DD and it's just a click of a button to move it across when we have something to pay for.

As said above, you wont be earning massive interest on the amount you would be saving for a wedding anyway and you will need instant access to the money

I just have a normal savings account, I find I'm always dipping in and out of it to get various things anyway so wouldn't be much point getting anything different re making any interest :-) xx

I've got the Santander 123 current account - gives just as good interest as a savings account, and up to 3% if over a certain amount and is instantly accessible. You also get cashback for utility bills etc which is good, have made over £100 with this so far. Like others have said though, with interest rates as they are you wont get hardly any return on your savings unfortunately.

Thank you for all the advice. Luckily I'm not too fussed about the interest just more concerned with being able to access it instantly. Sounds like there's quite a few places doing this so I'll start thinking which one is best for me Smiley smile

    thanks xx
