Second hand dresses

Lucylou27, 21 March, 2010 at 15:16 Posted on Planning 0 11

Has anyone else bought a second hand dress?

I found a good second hand dress site today and seen a few I like

http://www.sellmyweddingdress.co.uk

Not sure how I feel about 2nd hand but there are some lovely dresses on there that I won't be able to afford new?

I'm pretty sure I will be going down the second hand route, and I quite like the idea that it will already have meant the wolrd to someone else.

I'm on eBAY constantly at the minute, saw the perfect dress but it was £700 second hand and at the moment there's just no way.

Am sure there are genuine bargains to be had on these sites but just had a look at some maggie sotteros on there and not much price difference to what i saw in the shops (even used prices!) i suspect most of those listings are shops trying to sell off stock (nothing wrong with that of course) you might also find a better bargain in the sale rale of bridal shops/at wedding fayres/shows.

also not sure how you feel about it but i know a couple of girls on here got replica dresses made in china (geordie barbie defo and sazzle i think) GB got hers from Landybridal for a fraction of the shop cost. might be worth a look xx

I'm in the opposite position to you, I'm trying to sell a dress that I bought that's never been worn, been trying to sell it for months. I'd say if you really like 1 you see & its a good price then take a chance & try it on.

I visited a Barnados and an oxfam shop, both somewhere London & I tried on some really nice dresses (was even filmed for sky tv wearing 1 as a budget bride feature!) it's definetely worth looking if there's 1 near you as they were all in great condition but I didn't find 1 that was the 1 from either shop.

My dress was second hand, although in fairness it had never been worn by the person who I bought it from, I still class it as second hand.......it was a bargain at £250 instead of £750 in the shops so I didn't think twice............to be honest I wouldn't have thought twice even if she had worn it as its the only way I'd have been able to buy the dress I wanted as my budget wouldn't stretch to its full price.

If I was you I'd go for it, and if you're worried about what other people think then just don't tell them. They'll never know Smiley smile

edited to say I bought my dress from www.preloved.co.uk incase you want another site to try Smiley smile

I bought my dress second hand from ebay and it's perfect, almost looks like it's never been worn but for the marks underneath where it touched the floor! The girl I bought it from was 5 foot 9 and i'm only 5 foot 3 so when i have it taken up, the marks will all be gone.

Luckily i was the only bidder and it cost me £200 - you can still buy it in the shops for £950. It's Coco by Maggie Sottero.

Although I had a fantastic experience this time, I did actually buy a dress a month before this one and was devastated when it arrived and had lots of marks on it! The seller had basically lied about the condition. I got a full refund and sent it back at their cost. It was a really horrible experience though it didn't put me off.

So, if you are planning on buying a second hand one, try and actually go and see it before you buy if you can. Otherwise, ask lots of questions and ask for close up photos of any marks.

Yep - as Emsa says, I got mine from Landy Bridal. It's a copy of Essense. I ❤️ it. Can't fault it or the service I received. Cost me £165 inc shipping and VAT as opposed to the £997 in the bridal shops.

Other places which have good feeback are Light in the Box an Your Bridal Wear.
