Second thoughts on booked photographer...

Lollypoptee, 15 June, 2008 at 12:08 Posted on Planning 0 11

I don't really think anyone can help me but I am having second thoughts about the photographer we booked last year for our wedding on 1st November this year. We have paid a £500 deposit and could not afford to lose it.

We did see a whole range of albums etc he had created and there are no 'secrets' because his website has the albums of every wedding he has done.

Lately the quality seems to be a bit hit and miss with the weddings he has done and I am really nervous as to what the photos will look like after the day.

I don't really want to post the website link here but if you fancy casting a critical eye I will pm you the link, either to confirm or calm my suspicions that would be great.

Thanks

Lx

I am happy to cast my eyes over the photos if you want me to but I suspect you are just getting nervous because it is so long since you last saw the photographer.

Try to remember what it was that you liked about the photographer to start with. Was it the style of photos, the albums, the photographer himself (did he put you at ease) or maybe it was all of these things. Often it can be well over a year between booking your photographer and you actually wedding so plenty of time to get cold feet but your original instinct was probably right.

To put you mind at ease does your photographer offer a pre-wedding photoshoot? It might be included in your package and if so maybe you could contact your photographer and try to arrange this sooner rather than later. If it is not included you could still ask if this is something they would consider as getting to spend some time with them and see some of their photography of you before your big day might help to calm your nerves.

    Hope this help.

I think you should contact your photographer to go over what you would like for your wedding.

Could it be that the couples in the pics you are looking at, have specified what they like and it just isnt to your taste?

No photographer takes the same photographs at each wedding they do as the couple involved usually have an input

we found this to be the case with our photographer. We loved his work except for about 4 weddings. He was able to show us their requests on their contracts which showed us that the pics and style were of their choosing.

We didnt ask him to do this but were glad that he did. He had obscured the names etc but it was obvious that they had chosen a cheaper package etc and he had done a fab job with what they wanted

Perhaps even meeting him at the venue and discussing shots would put your mind at ease.

If you can remember what shots/albums he showed you that you particularly liked them perhaps ask him if he can do that style for you.

He may have perhaps had a new assistant, or have just changed his style a bit. I always think the best thing to do is chat with him and discuss your concerns.

I'm also willing to have a look over his site if you want and make suggestions on what to ask him.

Your photos are so important, so you need to be happy with your photographer. I'm sure all will be fine xx

Cal-exposure, please do not start bouncing old threads just so that you can advertise your business, it's making me cross.

Cal-exposure, I agree with KT on this one. It is not appropriate behaviour to bounce loads of old threads about photography just so you can advertise. The thread particularly was not asking for another photographer, just for advice on the photographer she currently has booked.

Maybe you need to spend some time reading through the forum and understanding how it works. The best business on here are those that offer advice to brides without using Hitched as a simple vehicle for advertising. If you can use your expertise to offer advice this will be much better received.

Ohh! I was wondering why my old thread had found its way back to page 1!
