Second time bride......do I wear white?

SecondTimeBlueBride, 15 May, 2018 at 10:08 Posted on Planning 0 5

Hi

My first marriage sadly ended in divorce. On a happier note my new partner has popped the question and we are planning our wedding together for 2020. I know I’m probably being silly but when I realised I’m getting married again I just automatically thought of having a wedding dress in our colour scheme, but my partner was upset I won’t be wearing white. I suppose I just worry about others opinions, probably more than I should, and I worry people will think badly of me for wearing white. My partner was as adorable as ever and told me it’s his first wedding so he thinks I should wear white, but I wondered what you all think. Do I wear white, maybe ivory or do I go for a dress matching our colour scheme?

thank you in advance and apologies if this is a duplicate post, I tried to post this at like 3am lol

xxxxxx

Hi this is my second time too...I'm also 52 and I'm wearing Ivory. I think wear whatever colour you feel most comfortable in. I initially thought because I'm older I needed to wear a darker colour or champagne. But when I tried these colours I they didn't really feel right. Incidentally when I was dress shopping there was very few white dresses and was told that the majority are now cream/Ivory...not site how accurate this or just in the are I'm in. Good luck with choosing

hi sunnyblue I thought about champagne that was my first choice, then he changed the colour scheme on me (insert eye roll here). Now I am thinking I don’t really suit champagne or gold anyway so maybe ivory is the way to go. Thank you for the good luck, I’ve a feeling I will need it haha xxx

Depending on the style of dress you're going for some of the blush pink ones are beautiful, and I've seen some lovely ones that are a nude colour with white or ivory lace on top.

There are a lot of non white options that are basically white. You could go for an Ivory or some gold tint or blush tint. I would say from what I tried on that most of the “non-white” dresses I looked at on the hanger suddenly looked way more white when I put them on so your fiancé probably wouldn’t even notice! I went for a blush pink variation in the end but you wouldn’t know when it’s on. Personally I wouldn’t judge a bride for wearing white no matter the circumstances, these days I don’t think many people would worry!

Thank you everyone. I think part of my problem is I need to stop comparing myself to when I was younger and just think about now and maybe stop giving as much of a toss about what other people are thinking of me ?. I haven’t even thought about what sort of style will suit me. We’ve decided on a colour scheme and where we want the wedding etc, I suddenly realised I need to figure out what sort of dress to wear too ? we are having a royal blue colour so I may try an off white or ivory. I remember being really shocked at just how many variations of white there were ?

Wear whatever you want to wear! There are no set rules about it. lots of brides don't wear white or ivory the first time around, you can wear whatever you fall in love with
