Second Wedding Dress? Do or dont?

smilesjp, 28 February, 2014 at 16:52 Posted on Planning 0 17

A few people I know who have gotten married have had one dress for their ceremony, and then get changed into another for their reception. Some say they did it just because they couldnt decide between the two, but not all of us can afford to splash out on two wedding dresses.. and others say because their ceremony dress just wasnt practical for dancing in..

Would you ever have two dresses?

I personally want to wear my wedding dress for as long as possible so wouldn't consider having two ;-)

Then again, i am having a tea length dress so dancing, etc shouldn't be an issue!

Personally I only want one. If I'm spending a small fortune on a dress I want my money's worth! Might change my shoes to flats for the evening but I'll get a dress that's comfortable enough to wear all day.

I only had 1. It was confortable enough to wear all day. I just bustled the train up for dancing. Although I did go through 3 pairs of shoes. I lasted in my Choo's until about 9:30pm then swapped to another pair of heels and arouns 11pm caved in and put my flats on. Also I wouldn't want to take much time away from my day to get changed. My dress was a zip with a few buttons on top and it took my sister 10-15mins to get me out of it at the end of the day. H couldn't do the buttons. So if I had to get into another dress it would be ~30mins away from the party.

I'd only have one, i love pretty dresses and all, but I'd feel a bit daft (dont know why, just would) changing into a second one for the evening, it'd feel a bit overly decadent to me i think, and im hoping when i choose my dress Im going to love it enough that i wouldnt want to change it!

My one dress will be worn twice. I can remove the caplet to change the look but I'm looking forward to wearing it twice. Smiley smile xx

Like most have said - I'll only be wearing the one dress too. It's costing enough so I want to make sure I get my money's worth! Plus I love it and probably won't want to take it off even to go to bed"

My wedding and reception are on two different days and I'm wearing the same dress for both - that way I get to wear my dress twice!! That's got to be a bonus surely and much nicer than having two dresses. I want my evening guests to see me in the same dress I get married in ?

Your choice! I only have enough money in the budget for one. Plus l wouldn't be too keen on the hassle of getting changed and transporting the dresses

I have a second dress as a just in case back up kind of thing. But it's not another wedding dress it's just a plain white dress of the high street. I've only done this though because I have ulcerative colitis and if I have a flare up on the day my dress may become an issue as my stomach triples in size over the course if the day and I need to be able to get it up quick to go to the bathroom. However if I have no issues with it I probably won't bother with the second dress and just wear it on our honeymoon instead.

I guess it entirely depends on how much money you're willing to spend. It would be great if some shops could do Buy One Get One Free. But I realise the chances of that happening are extremely slim....

My reception and wedding are also on different days and I'm getting two different dresses. Possibly somewhat oddly, I think my reception dress will be more glamorous than my actual wedding one. As we're eloping, I want my wedding dress to be really simple and understated, but as I'll be seeing lots of people at the reception I want that dress to be more of a showpiece! I suspect this is a pretty unusual arrangement though.
