I've arranged a womens Self Defence course at work for a few colleagues and we are halfway through the sessions. We've been taught all sorts, the main theme being to act in defence (what is reasonable, legal etc) to enable a quick getaway to safety (not how to beat potential attackers to a pulp).
Some of the 'moves' are things like eye gouges, palm strikes (hitting upwards on the nose with the base of your palm), kicks downwards on shins, stamping on feet with stilettos etc.. so quite violent, but obviously effective in getting someone away/off you and being able to run away.
A discussion we had after today's session was whether you could actually do some of the above in an attack situation. Some of these could cause so much damage to a person (obviously the point) that it's awful to think about inflicting that pain on another person. If my life was in danger then i'm sure i'd do whatever it took to get back home to my family but it's hard to think about actually being able to do that (and hopefully I'll never need to). Could you?
