Sell or donate?

stripeyrache, 15 February, 2011 at 22:48 Posted on Planning 0 7

I'm pretty much decided that I'm not keeping my dress after the wedding, don't have the space, not going to kid myself that a future daughter would want to wear it. First thought is to sell it, but I'm worried that I might have trouble shifting it, and if I'm honest will probably never get more than £200 - if that.

So now I'm thinking about donating it to a charity shop. Just wondered if anyone else had done that or was considering it?

You could put it on ebay or one of the preloved sites 1st and if it doesn't sell give it to charity £200 is worth having

MrsMcGorm that's what I said, on something like this:

But the woman in my dress shop said that wedding dresses. layers etc attract dust and will soon discolour (mine's white). I was always going to have mine made into a christening gown eventually so i'll be keeping mine somehow.

If you go down the charity route, it's worth finding out where the nearest 'bridal' charity store is, rather than just giving it to the local one, as they may have a bit more expertise etc. I know Oxfam has specific bridal stores, and one of our local Fara (I think it's Fara!) shops has a bridal section downstairs with dresses, veils, tiaras etc, even some unused guestbooks!

I agree i would try selling it first and if it doesnt sell then give it to chariy. My step sister had hers made into her daughters christening dress by a dress maker, i thought that was nice. Im personally going to store mine in a wedding dress box as i have one already to put it in to travel with. x

If you can't sell it, then definitely do what someone else said, and find a charity shop which has their own bridal bit. Only one I know of is Oxfam...

I cut my first dress up to make cushion covers, which for some reason, people seem to be mortified about.

I gave my first dress to a charity shop. It was a simple Berketex dress and I knew somebody on a budget could make use of it and the charity shop would benefit, so gave it away with shoes and the veil. I will definately sell my dress this time though even though I bought it preloved as its so beautiful.
