Sending your engagment ring off - has any one done this?

Ohwhatatuesday, 18 August, 2013 at 09:55 Posted on Planning 0 5

After trying lots of wedding rings on, I've realised I'm going to need a shaped on to go with my engagement ring as anything else looks a bit odd if I'm going to wear them together. I feel a bit weird about sending my engagement ring off for it to be made. I know it's unlikely but my paranoid mind worries about scams etc. I know it's probably unlikely but I'm still not keen on the idea of sending it away.

We've considered going back to the jewellers that made my ring but they're coming up more expensive (still might do this though). Just wanted other people's experiences - did you send your ring off/would you be happy to do this and if you did, was it all ok?

We've looked at Alba Rose who have really good prices and I've heard good things from people about them but wondered whether this included anyone who had already sent their ring off to them?

Maybe I'm being a bit over the top and have watched to many watchdog style programmes!

I wouldn't send my ring to anyone I didn't know who I hadn't dealt with. Mine was custom made but by the lady who made my E ring too. I had to go without it for about two weeks but I had no concerns as I knew her.

It is something I would be worried about to my ring was also custom made , and i think i will just go back to the same ones for my wedding band , although like you they seem to be more expensive

is your ring insured and do you have a diamond certificate ..??

I sent my engagement ring to Smooch to have my wedding ring made to fit. It came back within a few weeks and was sparkling like new! Would definitely recommend them.

Thanks for the recommendation - it is insured but the diamond has been taken from a family ring so has extra sentimental meaning to me so even more nervous about sending it off again! (Already had to hand it over to get the ring made!)

For best fit, it will need to be sent to a jeweller so they can make sure what they make sits properly; I can understand your concern and I would recommend going with someone that you trust - if your jeweller is too expensive, does anyone in your family have a recommendation? If you are worried about a place, don't send it there - but most of us jewellers are good honest folk - promise! Smiley tongue

For what it's worth, I've heard good things about Alba Rose from a lot of people on this forum Smiley smile

Just bumping this in case any one that reads this has sent their emgaement ring to Alba Rose and had it back? Or if not any other recommendations? I know alba rose has some great feedback on here but now sure if anyone has had a shaped ring/sent their ering off and got it back etc? Thanks
