*Sensitive* re my cat

Highlandgirl72, 22 September, 2009 at 18:45 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 10

My 5.5 year old cat suddenly collapsed today and had to be put down. It was completely out of the blue and happened so quickly. He was fine this morning and at lunchtime. After lunch, I went out to the supermarket to get a few things. When I got back I found him lying on his side, foaming at the mouth. He couldn't stand up and his eyes were glazed over. I took him to the vets and they told me he had a weak heart and there was no other option really than to put him out of his misery. I am so upset. He was a great wee cat.

    Oh my goodness.

You poor thing. You have to remember that he's had a lovely life with you and that you couldn't have done anything differently as this was just a cruel act of nature.

Thank you, ooh la la. I think he did have a nice life with us. He certainly had us wrapped round his little paw anyway!

Two, year old girls. They're like my babies.

Will you bury him in your garden?

I'm really sorry to hear this Highland, and I hope you're OK. One of my cats has a heart condition called feline cardiomyopathy, which means he could have the same thing happen at any time. It sounds like your lovely boy had a splendid life, and whilst it is incredibly sad to have lost him at a young age, I hope you can find some comfort in the fact that he didn't suffer with a long illness or lose his enjoyment of life as cats can do if they go on and on for years and years.

It must have been awful for you to find him like that, and I really do hope you're OK. I shouldn't have thought it's of interest but there is a Yahoo group for owners of cats with this heart condition and I can give you the details if it would help - often people join the group having experienced what you did, looking for explanations etc. But it sounds like you are more inclined to remember what a happy cat he was, and I think that's the right decision.

Lots and lots of hugs to you.

Have a great big ?. Cats are the most wonderful little animals/ or kids as I think of mine. One of ours did exactly the same thing, although he was 11, the vets did though tests and could find nothing, the poor little man went through so much and then was put to sleep anyway. I think the way you handle it was so much better, letting you little baby slip away peacefully. My thoughts are with you.
