September 2009er's. Anyone want to compare to do lists?

soon2bsummers, 11 November, 2008 at 10:30 Posted on Planning 0 18

I am in full planning mode at the moment and have got more done for the wedding in this past week than in a whole year of planning!

Ok here's what I have so far -

Booked venue, registrar (although a really crappy time☹️), car, photographer, flowers and given notice.

Bought my dress and shoes, adult BM's dresses and shoes. Bits from ebay for the tables place cards, favour boxes and countless pieces of ribbon!

Next on the list is trying to get OH to look at some suits etc as he has insisted that he wants to do all that himself. Which is fine but knowing his organisational (sp) skills (or lack of!) it's a bit worrying!

What's everyone else up to?

Oooh wow - you've done loads more than me!

We have booked church and venue, bought my dress, booked DJ, Tog, toastmaster and cars and i think that's about it!

We are giving notice on 12th December.

I am planning to BM shop in the new year and OH will do his suits then too. We are starting to get ideas for making our own wedding invites though!

You've done loads more than me too! I did just realise this morning that it's only 10 months away (when my daisypath ticker started working) so that's freaked me out a bit!

    So far we have:

    Booked venue

    Given notice

    Booked tog

erm...and that's about it. We have had a play around with card and ribbons and sorted what we are going to do for the invites and stationery - my next task is to find somewhere cheap to buy it all, and get busy with the pritt-stick!

In the new year I am going to start dress shopping. Then when I have found my dress I can get on to the flower lady.

Have found my little BM's dresses online but not ordered them yet (and I can't get a picture to work!!).

I'm off to the hairdressers this morning, so am going to find out some bits from them, and hopefully book in for that too.

    SO much still to do!

The 26th September. It's shocking so far how quickly the time is flying buy!!! It's been 6 months this week since we got engaged! And ten half til we marry - eeek!!!

    What's your date?

I have no ideas for invitations as i am not creative at all but luckily my OH is more so than me! I just like the idea of being able to do something myself! (Hopefully!)

Well despite previous communications with venue, registry office etc.. Nobody ever told me that you could book the registrar before you give notice, maybe lack of homework on my part but hey-ho! So as I have only just booked we were limited to two times, 11am or 3pm on advice of the venue have gone for 3pm. It's not a disaster just changes the plans for the day a bit that's all.

Well we booked our venue last september (2007) and it is frightening how quickly it has gone! What date are you?

The BM dress is adorable! Would look lovely with a green sash. I was going to go for green along side my pink that I already have but my pink obsession has taken over!

Do you have any ideas for your dress yet?

Oh yes that is another thing that's on my list. My fellow hairdresser friend is doing my hair for me so that's sorted!

We are 19th. Your lucky to have a OH that wants to be that involved. Mine only gets excited about the stag do and honeymoon (if we have one!). If I even mention ribbons or invitations he slips into a coma?

    Hi Ali_1978

I know i'm going to sound really silly asking this question, but what do you mean by 'given notice'?

    Thanks

    Michelle

    Hi Michelle,

I'm not sure what happens with church weddings but for a civil ceremony you have to "give notice of your intention to marry" to your local register office. We did it yesterday. It is basically a short interview with a registrar where they take all your details. You and your partners names are then put on their notice board (along with all the other couples who have given notice) for 16 days, not sure if this varies by area and on the 17th day they will issue your marraige licence.

Essentially it is so you can get your marrage licence. As I say I'm not sure what happens with a church ceremony.

    I think it's easier to say what we have done, rather than haven't;

Booked Co-ordinators - who the sorted the florist & photographer
    Decided on venue
    Provisionally booked reception restaurant
Going to look at a dress on Saturday
Got STD cards made ready to send with christmas cards

That'll do, we've got loads of time, I'm not getting obsessed with it all ?

Can I join in please, I'm August!

    So far we have:

Booked venue, giving notice tomorrow, booked toastmaster, booked florist, booked DJ, bought save the date cards, booked photographer, booked videographer, hired marquee, hired caterers, got my wedding ring, got veil and tiara, sorted venue dressing out.

Still need to: sort out invitations, order my dress and b/maids (booked in for 2nd week of jan), sort out a bar for marquee, sort transport, string quartet, sort cake, sort suit hire (OH booked in 2 weeks time). Book hotel for ushers, oh and book cats into the cattery for couple of days. Sort out hen weekend. Oh and glass hire in marquee, and fireworks, sky lanterns.

I'm sure there is heaps of other things that I still need to do! Gosh, here's me thinking I was pretty organised, I'm scared now!

It doesn't matter what type of wedding you have, you still need to give notice. It's a legal requirement.

We are getting married in a Catholic Church but have bookd to give notice on the 12th December.

...unless you're having your banns read I think as it's one or the other. Not sure quite how it all works, but we married in a Church and had our banns read, and didn't need to do anything else. I guess the banns serve as notice in these circumstances?

Another saving made! Just spoke to co ordinator at the venue and as there was a mix up with the ceremony time they are going to waive the bar extension fee of £100. Free later partying time!
