September 2011 Brides - what are we up to?

Surreylass34, 7 November, 2010 at 12:42 Posted on Planning 0 228

I need some distracting from my dissertation and am also being nosey to find out if I am organised or behind Smiley smile. So where are we all with our planning?

This is what we have organised so far:

Booked the venue (Civil ceremony and reception all in one place)
Booked the registrar give notice in December when my fiance is back for Christmas
Chosen the wedding party
Save the Date magnets done
Photographer booked
Chair covers booked
Florist booked - appointment Friday to go through more details
DJ Booked
Day Invites designed and quotes requested
Wedding rings chosen OH to order as we are going to get them in Houston where he is currently living as a bit cheaper, it has to have some benefits him being there
Dress ordered - still sooooo excited about this one as only found and ordered it yesterday you may have seen the flash

For all my date twins (10.09.2011) 307 days to go, 10 months on Wednesday Smiley smile

    Save the date magnets

    Photographer

    Chair covers

I'm really struggling to find my dress (i'm going to my 11th shop on Weds) and i really feel that i need to dress sorted before i can do much else.

Congratulations on finding your dress. I'll go and have a look for your flash now

    We're September 2011 as well.

Completed: Venue found, registrars booked, photographer booked, video sorted, band booked, food and drinks chosen, rings purchased (well they were a bargain!), colour scheme sorted, ties bought, invites sent out and coming back.

To do: Registrar interviews, dress shopping, shoes, finalise table decorations, have meeting at venue with photographer, buy sweets for treat table, decide favours, flowers, hair, makeup, honeymoon options (once we know what money is left), cake (options decided just need it made).

Discarded: Transport (don't need as using hotel so everything in same venue), chair covers (hotel good enough).

Interesting that most of us seem to be at fairly similar stages too - and this thread is going to be helpful to see what everyone else is up to because I'm sure we'll have forgotten something important.

Nope, will probably start looking at that after Christmas depending on availability of whoever she's going to take with her to go and look. We've been looking at bridesmaids dresses together so we have some ideas, but we are both quite aware that dresses don't look like they do on models when you try them on, and often you end up choosing something very different than you thought you wanted.

Just a shame that I can't get too involved in that one Smiley smile

Glad to see that we have all been busy organising, I seem to be doing ok and not behind at all so my panic is over. I am only concerned because i am studying at the same time and my wedding has to take a back seat for a bit now it is well under way and my dissertation will take over. Not as exciting but has to be done x

You're the first to admit being our date twin - wonder if there's any others?

We got quite a lot of ours all done in a week whilst on holiday, we'd already sorted out it was going to be one of two fairly nearby to each other venues in the New Forest on one of two date options, and had sorted out our guest list beforehand in a custom Access database I'd made to track everything, so 90% of the invitation pack was ready to go.

Once we'd visited the venues with my b2b's family and decided definitely which one of the two we wanted, on the monday we provisionally booked the venue, then rang and confirmed the registrar's availability, confirmed the entertainment (which we'd already spoken with to check availability before visiting the venues) and then at the end of that week's holiday one of the other hotels in the group had a wedding fair on so we went over there to pick up details of local hair, makeup, flowers etc, and popped in our venue on the way back home to pay the deposit.

On the monday morning I filled in the details on the invitation packs, printed out all the stuff, and then monday evening we sat down with a stapler and put all the packs together, which we put in the post box on the tuesday morning.

We wanted to be early with our invitations because we're about a 2 hour drive for most people who are coming, and as a consequence many will want to stay overnight - so the pack contained travel instructions, a map and details of our venue's wedding guest deals and two nearby Travelodges. Some people will need to think about booking up time off and the cost of overnighting so it gives them time to work out and save up.

RSVP is 1st March which gives us a chance to chase non-responders, plus if necessary send out 'round 2' of invites if we need to make up numbers.

It's strange really, there's loads of stuff we have to do fairly soon - photographers etc book up quite a long way in advance - then there's a sort of 'dead space' for a few months before you start going into all the last minute stuff like making up favours, sorting out table decorations etc.

We've decided to go for silk flowers so we can get them made up in advance, then just stick in a corner out of the way until the day so it's one less thing to worry about going wrong at the last minute, plus of course they're easier to keep as well.

We're having an autumnal theme, with hunter green as our main colour for bridesmaids, with ivory sash/trim/insert - b2b's dress will be ivory with hunter green sash/trim/insert - although I'm not allowed to know any more, apparently.

AJ you have just spurred me on to get more stuff done. I'm impressed!

Funnily, I have just completed an Access course as spent most of thinking how it will help my wedding planning no end!

I'm sure we must have a few more date twins for the 17th.

Glad to help - although I'm sure my Access db is more complicated than necessary, currently 26 different queries to extract data... but we did mailmerge our invitations with addresses which went on the back of the outer folder lined up for a window envelope.

I don't think I'll manage that much in it, but it will certainly help with the guest list etc.

You'll have to keep me in touch with where you are up to, and make sure I'm not slacking!

That would be nice to have some week twins ? Was the dress really flattering? I am 5ft 2 and a bit scared it will swamp me,sorry for all the questions but did it need a hoop underskirt? It will kill my credit card completely if a buy it but he ho...i want it lol.

Sorted other invites (our friend is doing them0

Got quotes on honeymoon and found a honeymoon gift list website

    Ummm..... thats it :-/

No worries about all the questions, thats what forums and week twins are for

It really is a beautiful dress and it did look lovely, but unfortunately it wasnt the most flattering I have seen on me purely because of my shape its no fault of the dress. I am 5'4" and have a short body and long legs! So the band bit in the middle kind of cut my body in half and made it look even shorter if you know what i mean. I am sure it will be flattering on the majority of people just not me. THis should not put you off in anyway shape or form it just wasnt my dress - go try it you will love it its stunning and could be your dress! Smiley smile

I think it would need a hoop as it has a lot of fabric as otherwise you would tread on it and the hoop would make it easier to walk. I dont think it would swamp you I !am only 2 inches taller and I certainly didnt get a swamped feeling although it was way too long so try and look past that and imagine it fitted for you

I know all about credit card kill mine got bashed yesterday for the deposit on my dress - its a great feeling when you find it and order it though I didnt stop smiling all day! Let me know what you think of it and if you go for it x

I'm 3rd September too! Nice to have some other people to share the planning stages with!

    So far we've:

Booked the church and spoken to the vicar, booked the reception venue and paid the deposit, bought my dress - did this very early on!, booked our photographer and paid the deposit, met a couple of florists and I think I know which one we're going to go with and what flowers we'll have, sent out save the dates, picked the invitation design (same as save the dates), chosen our cakes, bought bridesmaid dress, bought my side tiara, bought 2 tall candelabra for the reception, looked at rings and will order them through a family friend after Christmas

I've got lots of ideas for most of the other stuff but nothing firm - still a hell of a lot left to do!!

Hi, we are tying the knot on Wednesday 21st September. We chose a Wednesday as we are staying all week at the venue we will hold the reception in - It made sense to have the wedding mid-way through.

What's done: I have booked the nearby registry office and the venue where 22 of my family will stay all week.

    Photographer booked

    Dress bought

    Caterers picked

Bus chosen to ferry us all back and forth from registry office.

    Chose 1 bridesmaid dress (Ebay)

Bought boxes of Cava for toast (£23 from Sainsburys for 6)

Sent Save the Date magnets and have invites, thank you cards printed up

    To do:

Organise a piano player for a couple of hours - Not having a DJ or disco.

Make my own bouquet and buttonholes on the day before

    Buy shoes (from Ebay)

Buy some boxes of red & white wine and boxes of beer (there is no bar or nearby pub, so will provide alcohol)

Hire or buy some garden games for entertainments (Ebay)

    Get wedding ring (Ebay)

    Not bothering with:

Hairdresser or make-up person on day for me

    Bridal cars etc

    Favours

    Videographer

    Ushers, attendants etc

Groom, best man are wearing their own suits and wearing matching ties

My sister is also making my cake so don't need to organise that

Erm that's about it - Nice to write it all down and remember what needs done.

Oh bugger! I am new here today and wish I had not started reading these posts as now I am in a panic!

I am also 10th sept 2011 and you all seem to have done so much more than me! I have done alot of research but that is as far as I have got. Things that are booked are - Venue, registrar, photographer. My venue are supplying a DJ, table covers. She is also quoting me for flowers and cake.

I need to get a wriggle on! ?

    I'm a 24th September 2011 bride too, I see I have a number od date twins here.

So far we have - the venue (ceremony and reception in the same place and also includes the wedding breakfast/evening food, wedding night accommodation for us and table linen/chair covers), photographer, cake goddess, table centrepieces (the people we're getting these from may be able to supply some other little bits if we like them), I've contacted a florist and have done LOTS of research into stationery as I'm planning on making as much of it as I can myself.

I've found a dress I LOVE, but haven't been to try any on yet . . . me thinks I have quite a bit more to organise! ?

We are however going to declare our marriage on Thursday. ?
