September 2016 Brides

donkey86, 1 March, 2016 at 10:20 Posted on Planning 0 55

Is there already a thread for September 2016 brides? If there is, I can't find it! If not, shall this be ours?

How are you all getting on with planning? I'm September 10th and still have a LOT to do!

Hello! Don't worry, my list is at least as long... probably longer! I've got the venue and the photographer sorted, but that's about all!

Dress: not yet bought, aargh! I've another appointment on Wednesday and hopefully will buy one then. If I don't, I won't have many options left - tick tock!

Stationery: a friend of H2B's is an art teacher and she's offered to make the invitations for us. I'm a little concerned because, while she's very talented, her work isn't really my style - but she's doing in for cost price only, as a favour, and I'm sure they'll be a lot better than I could do and a lot cheaper than they would be to buy. But afaik she's only doing the invitations, so we'll still have to sort the rest. I think I'll skip menu cards as everyone's having the same, and I'll do place cards and a seating plan myself.

Florist: I'm a bit stuck on this one. I've been looking online for everything else, but I think flowers might be better by going into a shop, but I don't know where to go. Our colour scheme is blue and gold, which is a bit tricky for flowers, so I think I might go for plain white, maybe roses and gypsophillia.

Bridesmaid dresses: went round the shops with one of my bridesmaids on Saturday and couldn't find anything suitable in the 'regular' shops, so I think we'll need to try somewhere that specialises in bridesmaid dresses in order to find the right colour. Shouldn't be too hard though (I hope!)

Favours: all decided on (Cancer Research pins) but not ordered yet. As for presents for bridesmaids/mums etc - no idea!

Hair and makeup: I think my bridesmaids will do this for me. We need to get together and do a few practices.

Shoes, accessories: no idea, this will have to wait until I've got a dress

Centrepieces: not sure yet. I've been playing around with jam jars and gold paint, but it's looking a bit budget. I guess I should find a florist first and discuss.

Cake: my head wants a cheap M&S option, my heart wants something fancier... we shall have to see which side wins!

Transport: we're going to have a double decker London bus take the guests from the ceremony to the reception. I really should book this asap - after the dress, this is probably my second biggest priority right now.

So yeah... that's a pretty long list. Plenty to be keeping me busy! But I'll get there - so will you! Smiley smile

I’m September 24th too! So far we’ve booked all the big vendors like venue, caterer, photographer, videographer and hair and makeup, although we haven’t done our tasting yet. My OH will be in CA for a few months for work so our plan is to fly up to our venue together on his way back to the UK and tour the venue for the first time and do our tasting. Our photography package includes a visit to the venue so he can plan out the best spots for photos ahead of time so I have a feeling we will be taking our photographer on the tour with us!

Things we are working on now:

Bar: I’ve been in touch with a bar catering service for the last few weeks but the owner has been on vacation. Hopefully we will be able to book this week.

Music: I need to contact the orchestra coordinators at the local university to see if they can provide a string trio/quartet for the ceremony and cocktail hour. If it’s reasonable I will only book the DJ for the evening portion. If not, we will book the DJ for the whole day, hopefully as part of a package that includes a photobooth and uplighting.

Officiant: It would probably be helpful to have someone to marry us!

Invitations: The company that we bought our Save the Dates from is currently having a 30% off sale so we’re hoping to order our invitations this week! I will probably try to get matching menus and some other signage to go with it.

Dress: I’ve bought my dress and it should be in around April.

Bridesmaids: Since my BMs are scattered all over the place they have to arrange their dresses on their own. One has already ordered hers and another has booked an appointment for next week. The rest are slacking!

Décor & Rentals: This is the big one for me as the space is pretty much empty. We have to rent seating for the ceremony anyway and I’m trying to decide if, from a logistics standpoint, it’s possible to move the ceremony chairs inside for the reception, or if I should get benches for outside and chairs for inside. (The venue comes with chairs but they look like my parents’ kitchen table chairs). I also need to decide how I would like to do the lighting. I know what kind of centerpieces we want, but I need to purchase vases for the flowers, candles and candle holders to make this possible, and arrange linens. And there are just so many odds and ends, such as sparklers for the send off and a card box that I need to put together.

Cake: I think we are going to do a table of small cakes, which we still need to order, but that means I will need to find some cake stands.

Hey ladies! I'm September 3rd. It's under six months now! Crazy!

I think I'm doing okay, we're going to send our invites out in May which is when I think the real stressing will begin!

Dress- done! Have my first fitting next weekend!

Bridesmaids dress sorted, it's so much easier just having one bridesmaid.

    DJ, venue, photographer, caterer booked.

Suits- I've been really putting this off. Need to get going really. My H2B is in the army so he'll be wearing his uniform. But he's away at the moment and not coming back til June so trying to wedding plan with him is so difficult!

It's just the final touches and decoration now which is frustrating because I'm not very artistic and I really wish I was so I could make loads of lovely things for the big day. I'm looking into hiring some stuff to add to decoration and it's all so expensive! xx

Sounds like things are going quite well all round! I'm glad you got the florist sorted, Aspenlady.

As some of you saw in my other thread, I've got my dress sorted finally, so that's a big relief! I've also got a couple of quotations from bus companies and am following through to book one of them now so that's my other big to-do more or less done.

I'm going to view my venue tomorrow for the first time since booking it. I'm going with my Mum, who hasn't been to it yet - I really hope she likes it! I've got a very long list of questions for the venue. There are all sorts of things I'm just not sure about - how long we'll get before the wedding to put up decorations, if we can store things there overnight and collect the next morning, are we allowed sparklers, that sort of thing. I hope I get the answers I'm hoping for but if not, it's too late anyway...

Around six months to go for all of us now - eeek!

They're both nice, but I definitely prefer the first one. It's more modern and stylish, and I love the font and monogram.

    I'm 16th September. .

Was originally the 17th but had major venue doubts and changed it a couple of weeks ago.. (lost the deposit but feel so much happier about it now it was worth it)

Because I didn't love the original venue I just didn't have it in me to do much planning but since its changed I've been non stop on the Internet! lol..

Dress is ordered (although not sure I need to alter it to fit the new venue as completely different style)

Need to sort Church/Registrar still.. feck, hope I still can)

Bridesmaids dresses sorted ages ago and I'm making my own brooch bouquets so just waiting for the flowers to arrive..

    DJ booked.

Sample Invite just received which I love so will get them ordered once I know if it's civil or Church. .

Venue will sort catering so that's also ticked off..

Main thing I need to sort is Suits for the men and decorations. .

    xx

    Hello fellow September brides!

I'm a 2nd of September bride, glad to see that everyone has still got bits and bobs to do. I think I've don't all the main bits now (I kind of 'got on it' with wedding planning as soon as we got engaged, it was a bit ridiculous! ) Now I'm finding all the bits to personalise our day, scouring ebay and preloved for bargains!

Im actually starting to get excited about it again now, I love all of the suppliers we've chosen and I'm really looking forward to it all coming together ?

its going to be great to keep up with all the September brides and see how everyone's getting on, shaping their plans!

We're going to look at rings for the first time this weekend, and I have got no idea what I want! How do you choose? Haha!

    Hello September brides and grooms

I'm 24th September too ?. Got quite a few things sorted but still few things to do.

church and venue all booked, just need to liaise with Vicar soon.

My dress is ordered and already back ?.

Ordered bridesmaid dresses last week (after lots of shopping)

Been on annual leave so we have bought our rings and booked florist.

    Cake is sorted

Need to sort out invitations soon, venue needs numbers six weeks before and we are providing some transport so we will have to book that when we get the rsvps back. When is everyone sending theirs out ?

    Yaaaay!

I'm a 10th September bride - it will be our 4 year anniversary.

So far we've got venue, dress, BM dresses, cake, Tog, decorations, DJ, Cars, flowers, church, rings and suits sorted. Hair and Make up trials are booked, and suits are picked, just need to send the boys for measurements.

In the middle of sorting out invitations, then want music for reception drinks, and just the last finishing touches, favours etc to sort Smiley smile

I've made some more progress! My cousin has agreed to officiate our wedding (we can have anyone marry us here) so that is one more item off the list, and I spent an hour on the phone with a DJ last night and we are pretty set on booking him. He also said that he doesn't really think uplighting is worth it for our venue. I'm not complaining - that's one less thing I have to pay for! 3 out of 5 of my bridesmaids have ordered their dresses. I just need to get other two to get a move on.

I received our invitation samples in the mail and I'm really disappointed. The paper seemed very flimsy and for that printing technique the company will not let you upgrade to a thicker paper, so now it's back to the drawing board on that. The craft store near my house was having a 50% off sale on candle holders last week so I picked up a bunch of votive holders and some spray paint. I'm going to try to create the mercury glass effect, which seems fairly easy to do.

The only other major vendors we have left to book are the cake and the rentals, which really makes me feel so much more relaxed. I'm a pretty laid back person and once I make a decision I move very quickly. The biggest stressor in planning so far has been dealing with brides that book everything up two years in advance, as it made feel very pressured to get everything done asap so we didn't miss out. Now everything left to do can be done on our own time table which is a huge relief.

    Hey!

Mind if I join? I'm getting married on the 9th September. It's going so quickly! I've been super chilled out until this evening and it's all just hit me. So much to do! I've got dress, florist, cake, venue sorted but still need to figure out bridesmaids dresses and flower girls (I have 7 in my bridal party) ?!!

What style of wedding are you all having?

We're getting married and having the reception in the same place, two barns. I'm hoping it's going to be a really relaxed day. I'm going for blues, greys and lavender colour wise and lots of flowers everywhere. Bridesmaid dresses has been the toughest bit for me so far, and I only have four and no flower girls. I'm seeing three of them next weekend and hopefully a decision will be made ?

We chose our rings on Sunday, which was lovely, I love them both and we got discount which is always good! Now for all the personal details, what are people planning to make their day personal to them?

It's really not that long now!

That sounds similar to ours! We are having a barn wedding. I don't suppose yours is in Kent? I'm finding bridesmaids tricky too. I have my two best friends who are totally different shapes. I've ended up just telling them to wear what's comfortable and they feel good in. I'd rather they felt great than looked uncomfortable in all the pictures.

Thats exciting about rings. We have briefly been to look but haven't allowed much for rings in our budget so will be getting pretty cheap ones! Annoying as my engagement ring is quite an unusual shape so could do with getting one custom made.

We are heading to John Lewis on Saturday to do our gift list, pretty excited about that!

About making it personal- I'm not too worried about that. I'm hoping that my partner and I are a unique and fun enough couple that people have a great time because of who we are rather than how we have decorated the place! I'm dead set on staying relaxed in the run up and just having a huge party with all of my favourite people! Possibly easier said than done though!!

September 3rd! Feeling a bit behind on things although to be fair have most of the major things sorted! Sorted chutch, reception venue, photographer, band for the evening, car, I'm renting my dress but that's chosen and minor alterations underway. Going for M&S cake and flowers but can't order them till June. Looking at bridesmaid dresses at the moment, but as with others mine are scattered across the country which makes it a little tricky! Next is probably suits! And rings!

I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed with all the 'small' things that need thinking about. I was pretty happy with things like shoes and jewelry but keep being type I need special wedding versions rather than what I already have.. so now need to investigate all of these things! And where do I get a nice cake topper from???

Time is ticking away too quickly! Aaaaarghh! Wedding planning makes one a tad crazy.

    Go september 2016 brides! :-)

    I'm a Sept 30th Bride! I can't believe it's come around so fast, it's crazy?

We've got most of the main stuff - venue, catering, photographer, I've JUST ordered my dress and got a good telling off as I did it way too late and my first fitting will be August, as it won't get in from the designer until end of July...eeeep! We gave notice in Feb, had a 6 month meeting with our venue - everything seems on track but it doesn't quite feel it haha!

Suits, ordered b'maid dresses off ASOS on Thursday (love a bit of 20% student discount codes!) I've had to order a new engagement ring as mine is a vintage one from the 1920's that is damaged, so holding off on rings until thats in around May time.

We really need to get a wiggle on with ceremony choices, drinks choices, decor, and honeymoon decisions. Oh and all the other million tiny decisions which seem to mount and mount! We get married and reception in a lovely barn so not much too-ing and fro-ing thankfully. We are going for a metallic theme, coppers and silvers so needing to find some personal touches for the venue.

I'm going to do my make up so testing foundations as I've got quite dry skin, so hoping to find something lovely in time! Oh, and shoes too - I'm a trainers kinda gal, but petite so I need some height but feel like I'm probably gonna break my neck!

    Hi ladies,

We're getting married 17th September. We've got all the big stuff out the way, but it seems like the small stuff never goes down!

We're getting married abroad so we had to send out the invites last September. I DIY'd them and then got them printed on kraft paper at printed.com, which I thought might be of use to MrsP2Be? Because of getting married abroad we also had to sort out a wedding website - just not enough space in an A5 invite!

I've got the dress, I'm so in love with it but need to have it taken up as I'm only 5'2! We've booked the photographer, venue, one of my oldest and closest friends has offered to officiate as a gift to us, (as we're marrying abroad, it's legally easier for us to get married at the registry office first before we go, so registry office and giving notice has been sorted).

Bridesmaids have been left to choose their own dresses with a pretty broad colour palette, my only request is that they were the same length- they're all different heights, races and body sizes so wanted them to feel as comfortable as possible.

My sister has kindly offered to sort out majority of the decor, my mum is growing the flowers and has offered to sort out food, OH and I are making a playlist for the wedding on the ipod. I'm also doing my own hair and make up and baking the wedding cake. No pressure then ?

It seems like we've got loads done but there's still so much to do ?

BrizzleBride- have a look on etsy, they do really nice cake toppers, and have the option to customise them.

Zaramia1107 - have a look in youtube on the pixiwoo channel. They recently did a massive review on foundations - Nic (the one who did the video) has dry skin and she picks out her favourites, thought that might help.

This is my problem too! My dress would definitely look better if I wore heels, but I find them so hard to walk in - I always wear flats. Looking at most of the shoes in the shoe thread that's near the top of the boards at the moment, I feel like I couldn't manage any of them. If I'm going to go with a heel it'll need to be quite chunky so I don't teeter over. But it's hard to find something that's solid but still pretty. Tbh, I'm tempted to go for glittery converse, but my Mum is REALLY not keen on that!

Haha, same as me! I need a flat surface like a platform, not stilettos here. The issue I have is my BM's are all taller than me (but so are most people) so I feel like I'm gonna look like a small child in photos. I do have some lovely old Zara platforms which might go - in all honesty no one is gonna see my shoes! I've decided on some Nike's for the reception tho - toying with the idea of getting some customisation in them!

My BM dresses turned up today from ASOS (god bless student discount from my brother!) and I love them. They are grey which goes well with our metallic theme, though they are running smaller so I think we are going to need to exchange them.
We handmade all of our invites by foiling them - My H2B then decide to off our services to a work colleague so we've been stuck making other peoples invites too (a Sept wedding also!) but we still have our evening ones to get out!

Also trying to sort a honeymoon... am I the only one whose finding this super difficult?! We don't really do chilled holidays so thinking of LA... I wouldn't have thought it be too hard to book a holiday after planning a bloody wedding haha!

I'm also having a heels/flats dilemma. But then I found these

and I think they're the perfect compromise. Small heel but quite wide so you won't stick in the grass or topple over... I hope!

    Hi Ladies,

I'm 3rd September, I only got engaged mid February so it's all been a bit of a rushed blur, but we have been together for 6 years and don't really want to wait any longer!

We've got the venue, florist, photographer, caterer (although we've not been for tastings yet), cake (or in our case macaron tower), bridesmaids dresses, my dress, shoes, veil, guest book... And our invitations are currently being sorted!

I feel like I've got so much catching up to do, I put H2B in charge of the band so that probably wont get done for a few months, and persuading him to come suit shopping will also be a challenge!

I'm so relieved to have found this forum and finally have some people to talk to about it all!

Finally got all my bridesmaids to agree on a dress this weekend, so relieved about that! Colours finally decided ?

    How's everyone getting on now?

After about a month of doing Jack all, I've had a busy day... Finally picked my decorations and provisionally booked a room stylist... it's been really bothering me as I'd intended to do it all myself but with only 5 months to go and nothing picked/sorted I've decided to just hire someone to do it and take the stress off..

Got a Cake Testing session next week and just waiting for a quote on invites then I'll take another breather.. I seem to have a week of non stop planning then a few weeks of not even thinking about it..

My main issue is the suits!!! With us in Cheshire, Groomsmen in Sheffield and Dad in Wigan it's really hard knowing where to start! Anyone got any ideas??

We looked in Debenhans as I liked the idea of them being able to go to their local stores but my other half doesn't like the stitching on their suits...

    Anyone got any other ideas?

Hmmm, the easiest options would be to pick suits from a national chain store, or to just select a colour/style and have everyone wear suits they already have. Is it an option to make a day of it and have everyone go together?
