September Honeymoon Weather Worries

emmamac73, 14 September, 2010 at 12:36 Posted on Planning 0 23

Hello Ladies!

My wedding is 27th Aug 2011, hoping to honeymoon from 29th Aug. Want 3/4 nights in a city, then 7 on a beach (so 7 nights at beginning of September)

Options at the mo are Hong Kong then Bali/Koh Samui
OR
New York, Vegas and Hawaii

On all the weather pages the weather looks dubious in all of these beach resorts....rainy/cloudy.

So...has anyone travelled to these places in September? Or can recommend anywhere else?

I guess they will be tropical short showers....so maybe I'm just being silly...could just do with some re-assurance. I am really scared that it will rain too much :-(

HK and Thai/Bali are my fave at the mo. I want tranquil dessert island. Was thinking Maldives but been told the weather is not at it's best and it is hard to twin with anywhere but Dubai which I really don't fancy.

Thanks!

PS...I've also posted this in the Honeymoon forum but it's very quiet over there so I've put it on here too! Hope that's ok :-)

Well.. my dad just came back from Cuba, which is in the carribean / that area of the world..

He said it rained everyday, for between 10 mins and an hour. and it rained during the night most nights.

It's the hurricanes you need to watch out for more than the rain IMO.

Despite this we've booked to go to mexico mid-August next year and are taking the risk on the weather.

Claire your honeymoon sounds amazing!! Who have you booked with?

Maybe I'm being too fussy about the weather then....I think the Maldives is exactly what I want...I'm confused!

I get married same day (27th) and we also are hoping to fly out on 29th!! We want to go to the Maldives (had made a post in Honeymoons but no replies yet) and I wanted to know what the weather was like and which island / resort people could suggest.

so far, we really like Kuredu but haven't looked at the others properly yet ?

I don't know whether to share this or not because I don't want to be rude to anyone who has booked the maldives - thats where I wanted to go (I posted so on here lots of times) but make sure it's really what you want.

We went to book the Maldives and the travel agent shared her experience and in doing so talked us out of it.

We wanted somewhere quiet to relax etc but she said if you go to the Maldives there is literally nothing to do on some islands - your talking a beach and restaurant. Often the resort takes up the whole of the island. Travel agent said she went on a free trip to "see how fab it was" and after 6 hours was so bored and desperate to come home. She said it was so bad that there was a couple on honeymoon who asked to join in their game of volleyball on the beach as they were so bored! She said that you spend 10 mins walking round the island, walk the other way round incase you missed anything and thats it..

Now we don't want to do a lot - but I am going to want some honeymoon pics, I want numerious bars in the resort, I want lots of excellent restaurants etc.. She advised me not to go.. So we haven't.

Just thought i'd share - obviously I have no experience of it, i've never been, but these words from a travel agent (who assumably would want my money!?) was enough to put me off.

I guess if you do want to go there - make sure you get the right island?

We went to Bali on our honeymoon and flew out at the beginning of September (this is going back a few years). The weather was fantastic - very hot and the whole fortnight we were their we did not see a cloud!

Maldives does look like the paradise dessert island I want....will have to talk to OH tonight. I want to get it booked soon.

Thanks for the advice about Co-op/Kuoni....might pay them a visit :-)

Maldives/singapore is looking good....I still have my heart set on Hong Kong though....eeek!

Wouldn't that be weird.. and cool lol

i think I will check out Co-op/Kuoni as well.

We're going for a fortnight but I might try and persuade H2B to split it between two destinations because I know he says he just wants to chill and do nothing, but I'm a little worried I might get bored, like Kayl says ?

FunkyDiva, how was Bali, we've heard mixed reviews, that there are a lot of "looky looky" men/sales etc on the beaches....that they even follow you out in to the sea!

    Where did you stay?

I'm hoping if we got a nice hotel with private beach it would overcome this?!

    Thanks

We never encountered a single sales man/men on the beach and no one ever followed us into the sea the whole 2 weeks we were there. If I am honest because we were out of season the beach was not that busy (no more than a handful of people at any one time).

We stayed at the Nusa Dua Beach and Spa hotel and upgraded to a Palace Club Suite so we over looked the beach and had a little more luxury on honeymoon.

The beach was shared with other hotels but each had its own section so pretty private and very far apart (not like holidaying in Spain!), however you could still walk along the beach and not see anyone and not interfere with other people from other hotels. Nusa Dua is a gated community with all high class hotels and the security did tend to vet who was coming through (although I go back a few years so may have changed).

I have been to Maldives and Bali.

To be honest they are two different holidays and very much depend on what you want.

Maldives was very relaxed and quiet. I only stayed for a week and to be honest any longer would have been too long. It is beautiful and is paradise. The hotels are no more special than other places but the beaches are beautiful. I disliked the fact that you were confined to your resort and although I like to relax I also like to get out a little bit. Having a 2 centre holiday would probably prevent this.

Bali although paradise is different. It is not as secluded as Maldives but still as peaceful. The beaches are nice but not as wow as the Maldives the sand is a lovely colour but not white and the sea is clear and warm. I personally prefer Bali as I enjoyed the culture and being able to get out of the hotel if you wanted to, which we did as we were not all inclusive so we enjoyed eating out in the evenings if we wanted to, although the hotel food was superb. I know other people have preferred the maldives - it very much depends on what kind of honeymoon you want.

I did not really see any of the other beaches in Bali so I can only comment on Nusa Dua Beach.

I would definitely recommend, if you do choose to go to the Thai islands, that you go to Koh Tao instead of Koh Samui. In my experience its far less touristy, and a much more remote & romantic island. Not sure if there are that many top quality hotels though!

We also went to Bali at the Nusa Dua Hotel! We went in December following 9/11 and it was deserted because a lot of people had cancelled. We loved it and weren't really bothered by salesmen. It only rained once for about 5 minutes absolute torrential but we just sheltered under the beach brolly and as soon as it stopped, the sun came out and it dried up in minutes and was red hot again!

We went to the maldives in July - we were warned about the weather, and it being rainy season, but it was fine. I'm so glad we didn't let it put us off. I'd say go where you really want to go, and not worry too much about weather worries!!

Hey there, I live in Hong Kong, and Sept is a fab time to come! Its still super hot (it's 30 degrees today) but the typhoon season is over so the rain is v light / infrequent.

Bali is wonderful - particularly Seminyak. Great villas / hotel resorts. Personally I dont go to Bali for the beaches (the hotels pools are norm better and the sand can be a bit manky)

If you like the idea of Singapore you can be guaranteed great weather most days - its the start of the rainy season but only just - then skip off to Malyasia / Krabi for gorgeous beach time !

    Just my 'thrupence

    Hi Susyq,

Thanks for the info, is useful to get a "local" perspective!

Can you recommend anywhere in Malaysia? Again we were worried about the weather there. Would love HK, Kuala Lumpur then beach resort...

I lived in Bali for 5 years and we're going there for our honeymoon, my H2B has never been. It's hot all year round and September isn't very wet, if you have Qs about specific places feel free to ask, like I said, it was my home for 5 fabulous years Smiley smile x

This is such a great post! OH and i have been discussing honeymoons and we are struggling to agree. As much as he wants paradise he is worried he will get bored. He's not a book lover and so not sure what he would do to pass the time away. Laying on a beautiful beach drinking cocktails sound slovely but i'm sure the novelty would wear off quite quickly. We are getting married in July so we are worried about weather with some tropical destinations. I think we are going to pop into a travel agents and get some ideas from them. OH wants paradies with activites such as jet skis and scuba diving aswell.

I spoke to my dad (who travels a lot for an old man - hehe) and he said that although it is carribean hurricane season the hurricanes sweep through the area differently so some areas your safe at certain times.. eg: The hurricane doesn't really hit mexico until Mid-September or October.

And Barbados does get hit, but not hugely as on average every 20 years.
