Serious venue issues. Updated ?

cez1987, 13 May, 2015 at 17:59 Posted on Planning 0 32

Something bad has happened with my venue and I am begging for advice and urge you not to be judgemental as this is really heartbreaking. Basically I was the head chef of the venue where my wedding was supposed to be up until a few days ago. I was at work and was having a really bad day and have a lot going on in my personal life and I lost my temper and told me boss that I don't care anymore to which he told me to get my things and go. Basically sacked me. I haven't a leg to stand on job wise as I am classed as self employed despite working there as an employed person for nearly 2 years. The job doesn't bother me. I made a mistake and I deserve to be punished for it. But my wedding? My boss then said that he doesn't want an ex woker having their wedding at the hotel. He said he will give me my deposit back but it's not good enough. I can't afford another venue and I can't afford to get all the stationary redone. My invitations are due out in less than a month. I am so heartbroken and I am afraid that I might have to cancel the wedding but I don't want to. I signed a contract for the wedding so basically he is keeping up his side by refunding my deposit but that's not the point. It just isn't a valid enough reason. What am I going to do? Any advice would be appreciated.

Sorry to hear of your predicament.

Have you looked at any other venues? If not i would start to look now and see what the prices are and whether you could afford anywhere else. Some places may have had a cancellation and drop the price (and you may not want to be in ex-work place and see your ex- boss on your wedding day anyway!)

In regards to your existing venue/ ex-work place, could you ask your other half to speak to the boss and you try and keep out of any further negotiations with him? He may still be wound up by the situation and need a couple of days to cool down and speaking to your OH may help ease the tension.

I would also check you contract and see if it says anything about reasons for termination of contract as just because he is offering to refund your deposit doesn't mean he has a right to terminate the contract in the first place, unless there is a clause that says ex-employees can not hire the venue. Your wedding and the incident two days ago are separate and should not be tied together, again unless it is in the contract.

Hope it all works out for you.

I don't know how much use my OH would be. He's a bit shy hence the lack of wedding planning lol. Yeah I do have wedding insurance. I have looked at other venues and since we have had the venue booked for 7 months we have budgeted for it and unfortunately can't afford anything more and all the venues we have looked at are way too much plus it's going to be over £100 to get the stationary redone too. Oh what a mess ?

Did you sign a contract for your wedding? If so they can't just dump your wedding coz you no longer work there.

I think you may need to swallow some pride here and go and apologise for losing your temper. If you can bring yourself to do that and to be genuine about it, you may find they will accept it and carry on with your wedding.

If not, and you do need to change venue, could you not just add in a little slip with your stationary to change the venue information? I know it's not ideal but might be a way around your problem.

By the sounds of it there was a lot of tempers loose and that probably includes your boss. I would let the dust settle for a few days then ask to arrange a meeting with him and your OH attend, go by the means of a customer not an ex employee. There will be nothing in your contract about ex employees and it's probably a case of flared tempers rather then anything else.

I know it's a waste of money that you've already spent on your stationery but can you knock some up yourself on a computer perhaps to save the costs of having to have more done?

Go see your boss be super humble suck up a bit I know you probably have your own views on him bit don't bring that into it

By now he might be missing his super chef and might be getting ready to ring you who knows!!

The fact that he has asked to meet with you would seem to bode well. Good luck.

I would say what he's done is illegal and could be sued for a lot of money.

Yeay! I'm so pleased for you! What a relief.

(As an aside, your boss sounds highly strung! I tell my boss I just don't care any more evey now and again and he tells me to go and take a break!)
