seriously peed off re dress shop-update

jade12345, 22 February, 2011 at 13:37 Posted on Planning 0 15

Feel like i could scream!!! ordered and paid for my dress in august and was told it would arrive in the shop january time. just rang up to see if it arrived and the lady has said they have no storage facilities to keep it in the shop till this long so will not be coming in store till a few months before the wedding!!!

i dont need the dress yet but i've virtually ripped the postmans hand off everyday since xmas waiting for my letter to arrive to say its in. i just want to go and try it on again and see MY dress not the shop one. also what if there's something wrong with it??? what if they've ordered wrong size or something??

am stressed out big time now, feel like going back this very minuite and demanding my dress is in store asap or getting a refund and going elsewhere. they told me in august they like the dresses in for a clear 6 months for alterations etc etc and she said if i didnt order that day then there might not be enough time and also why sell these dresses if they have no storage facilities?? surely common sense says move to bigger premises??? god i feel sooooo angry/upset ???

rant over.sorry x

Wow hun that is strange. I would complain if I were you. My dress got ordered about 2 weeks ago and I am getting married the 1st October. They said this was enough time. It's understandable you want to see your dress. Its not like they've even said you can keep it at home considering they don't have the facility to store it in the shop.

My dress shop said they will call em when it arrives and I can then make an appointment to go down and pay the balance and try it on (for all the alterations etc).

I think that's really unprofessional. Its your dress, you've paid for it, therefore you should get to see it and try it on! xxx

As frustrating as it is I think this is commonplace - well it certainly was for me as well. But they should have probably explained things better to you.

The dresses are ordered so they are available 6 months before in case of any issues (volcanic ash cloud anyone?!) but they don't want it sitting in their shop for those 6 months taking up space when it's not needed. If you arrange your own alterations then they can most likely call it in now for you to take away.

Thank you- thought i was being all bridezilla there lol.

i just expected the dress to be in the actual shop not stored god knows where till they ring and say they will take delivery of it. i want to go and try it on and make sure its o.k. dont want any alterations yet as wedding not till october but thats not the point. if it doesnt come into store till they said it will it will be 11 months from ordering/paying to me actually seeing the dress again!

I can understand your frustrations but try not to worry too much. I got the phone call last week to let me know my dress had arrived, only to be told that the wrong size had turned up and that they would have to reorder it. I now have to wait until they end of May!! Really hoping they get it sorted though as the wedding is July. On the bright side, when I asked about alterations she assured me that they could be done within a week. Also, I could do with losing a couple more pounds so decided to look on the bright side as it gave me a little longer to get in shape. As RaeF says, would they be able to arrange for you to pick it up and sort your own alterations?

I dont even know where my dress is. all i know is that they have ordered it. the woman who works today seems to have no idea what she's on about when i've spoken to her before about things so going to go down tomorrow and speak to owner and might get some sense. whats really bugging me tho is they say i need to order my bridesmaid dresses by end of march so they are here in time and time for alterations but if i dont see my dress till july time what if there's something wrong with it? surely they cant get another to me that quick when mine isn't even here yet from august??

Jade, I sympathise with you but chill out!

There's still plenty of time for your dress to come in and I'm sure it'll be perfect. In the extremely unlikely event it's not, I'm sure they'll sort it out in time.

The bit I really sympathise with you about though, is the fact your dress shop have told you one thing and have done another. I'm currently having a similar thing with mine and it's made me really quite cross. I think often the dress shops forget how much us brides take their word as gospel - if they say it'll arrive at a certain time, give or take the odd natural disaster, you expect it to be there - it's their business to know after all! Lack of communication is always frustrating.

I've got 2 and a half months to go but mine is being made to measure. Friday is the fitting for my toile and then they have to make up my actual dress from that.

Well by the time it turns up I will have about 6/7 weeks. Although that wasn't the original plan!

My dress isn't due in the shop until March and I am getting married on the 4th June and it will need altering so getting a dress in the shop in July for October sounds like ok timing to me.

I would be annoyed that they gave me the incorrect information in the first place though.

I suspect that my dress with be finished with perhaps 4 weeks to go and then I'll have to fit in several fittings. Unfortunately I have a very busy period at work then and no Saturdays free (unless you count the one before the wedding, though we're hoping to be away) so getting them booked in will be tough.

    Good luck!

So... i rang dress shop today and spoke to the lady who took my measurements and took order of my dress. she said the reason my dress has not arrived in the statedc timeframe is because of xmas/volcanic ash cloud etc etc etc! really miffed as i asked her what atage of the order process my dress is at and basically she couldnt answer and the most i got was at a push they could get it me for july. now i understand i do not need my dress now but i am peed off with them for saying it was coming in january. i have friends who marry in july & august and they have tried there dresses on and made app for alterations etc. anyway i asked could i please be told the order date and expected delivery date for my dress which i was told would take a few days to find out as there was nothing on my file and she will get back to me.

my mil friend works in another bridal shop and i have asked her a few questions and she has said from order to delivery is roughly 14 weeks by my designer- i placed my order in august so will be 11 months till i get it! also i had a look on my calendar and 14 weeks from today is july- i really think they havent even ordered my dress and am seriously regretting my decision to use them. wish i could get my deposit back and shop elsewhere cos i do not feel comfortable with their lack of communication regarding delivery times etc etc......

I think a lot of shops will measure you and take your order with your deposit but not actually place the order with the designer until nearer the wedding. Basically if you order 12 months before the wedding and the designer says they need 4 months notice then your bridal shop won't place the order until 6 months in to allow 4 months for the dress to be made and 2 months for alterations. This is how it was explained to me by my bridal store so I chose to leave ordering the dress for a further 6 months as I have been loosing weight and thought it would need less altering if I had the measurements taken nearer the time.

This is what they are now telling me but they didnt explain this when i ordered. i stood there in the dress and i said yes this is the one and asked when would i need to order. she said ideally i needed to order there and then so it would arrive in january and they like to have a clear 6 months for alterations etc etc. now they are telling me a totally different version of the order process and im completeley flumaxed with it all. she even had the nerve to say if im having dress wobbles i could go in and try the shop sample on- i said im not lol i just want to know the truth re my dress and then she said well if your worried i dont know why perhaps your worried about other things! am really upset with them- i know it might sound silly really and i know i dont need the dress till they say it will arrive but to me they should have explained all this when i ordered and not said all they did. god i feel like a right bridezilla lol

Its normal for you to get upset and stressed over it, they've mislead you and told you to buy it now or they'd not have it in on time, which is one of the famous sentences from a bridal store, just because they worry you'll leave the shop and look for it somewhere else and take your business elsewhere.
