Shaped wedding ring?

JST, 4 November, 2010 at 10:46 Posted on Planning 0 24

Is anyone having one? I had a quote for one to sit underneath my pear shaped engagement ring last night and...wow... Way out of my budget. Was wondering where any others have got theirs from and if I can be a cheek and ask prices?

Flash just cos I can tee hee: I want my WR to sit underneath my ER:

    Hi JST,

Beautiful ring! I think you'll have trouble getting a ring 'off the shelf' to fit around it though, because of it's shape, I'd say you'd need to have a ring made from scratch so it fits properly.

What metal are you looking for?

Thank you! My ER is white gold so that would be great for a WR. I just want something plain cos I think the ER is enough bling haha.

Do you mind me asking how much you were quoted? I am having a 2mm 18ct white gold wedding ring specially made to fit underneath my engagement ring too and it is having 3 diamonds in it. It'll be about £650 and this includes it being specially fitted to shape round my ring. Plain without diamonds was about £500. They will be giving us a further discount though as we're getting it from the same place we bought the engagement ring and will also be buying H2B's wedding band from there too.

Another option is to have it in 9ct white gold as this will also bring the price down...

MissZKG it was for 2mm white gold, plain, no diamonds and the price was £625. Seemed loads for not a lot to me... Maybe I have got the wrong price in my head but wasn't planning on paying so much for something so plain!

Beautiful ring!, I was going to go for a pear shape but opted for a brilliant cut instead because of having trouble finding a wedding band to fit unferneath.

Hope you find one that's in your price range x

Was it for 9ct or 18ct? It sounds a tad on the pricey side to me - considering mine is only £25 more and it has diamonds in it... If it was for 18ct, perhaps ask them to quote for 9ct instead? Gold prices are incredibly high at the moment. You could consider Palladium as this is a cheaper metal (same family as Platinum but MUCH cheaper) but this would only work if your ER is platinum or palladium as it is a harder metal than white gold so the two cannot go alongside each other. Whereabouts are you? You could shop around on the internet or am happy to recommend my jewellers but they're in Wiltshire - and as you'll need to have your ER sent away to have the WR fitted to it, you should use someone you trust or that has a good reputation!

Sorry to gate crash!!! We ordered our rings from Bliss last week and mine was very reasonable. I'm having mine in 18ct Gold shaped around my square cut engagement ring with two diamonds and mine is £340, the OH got a bespoke ring for £440....We also got 5 necklaces for the BM's and 4 sets of cufflinks free!!

Saying that, my friend said that Smooch gave her more options in terms of what she could do with the diamonds...its depends on budget and what you want! HTH! Smiley smile

Wow that does seem like a lot. Where are you? Can you try the Birmingham Jewelry quarter?

Mine is currently being made to fit this:

It was from a local handmade jewelry store in Milton Keynes.

Excellent advice, Misszkg, thank you for that. I'm still browsing t'internet and weddingrings-direct look really reasonable..

OOOOOOOOOOOOH mrsdedewo, that is miles more like the price I want to pay! Are they online? Off to have a look now... My OH has found the exact ring he likes in titanium with carbon fibre, and its a steal at £50! He's just not fussed about anything too fancy and is a massive petrol head so loves carbon fibre.

    Hey JST,

I've just checked and our price would start from £310 for white gold shaped to fit around your ring. Obviously the price increases if you want to add diamonds etc, but I agree that your ring is bling enough!

This also includes free bridesmaids and bestman gifts, and a lifetime guarantee. HTH, just shout if you have any questions...

Sorry to hijack your thread but any idea at what sort of price I'd be looking at for a shaped white gold WR to go with my ER? I'm about ready to start looking

I got my WR made bespoke in Phelans in Milton Keynes.

It is a 2mm white gold ring with 14 diamonds in (I think). I provided the stones from old jewellery I dont wear anymore so my ring was only £250 but the diamonds would have been £25 each so even if I had paid for them it would only have been £600 !

Mine was from Smooch. Would definitely recommend them. I can't remember the exact price but somewhere in the region of £500.

It would be the same starting price Laura, £310, that is for a 2mm white gold ring, shaped around your ring. HTH, if you need an idea for a thicker band or anything, just yell ?

They are called Bliss Rings, they do have Website...the lady that came to visit me was so lovely too! They do titanium rings also, really reasonable as my H2B almost went for one but in the end decided on a sandstone finshed, white gold ring. Let me know if you need ot know anything else.

Wow!Beautiful! My ring is square shaped, and I was advised by lots of people that I would need to have a ring designed to fit around it. I've since discovered that if I have a very fine band ring it will sit underneath my engagement ring. I've tried some on and it does look really nice, try some on with yours, you might be pleasantly surprised!

Hey. Ive just ordered my ring and its a 18ct white gold 2mm plain band (at the moment) for £210 He could shape it for me with an additional cost of approx £50, then £15 per diamond. I got it from woodly goldsmiths so it depends where abouts you are, and they work on it there and then for you, he shaped mine to a flat court in 15 mins!! Also, having both ER and WR rhodium plated to protect gold nearer the time.

Belive me i've tried! There is a gap that i feel is too big. Its not noticeable to everyone but i really do not want a gap...i'll show you a pic of the ring so you mightbe able to see what i mean...there's a gap of at least 3mm...

I dont understand the bit about you having it rhodium plated to protect the gold nearer the time?? White gold IS rhodium plating ontop of normal gold - there is no such thing as white gold on its own... Do you mean you're having it re-plated nearer the time??

I needed to have a shaped wedding ring. The basket that holds my diamond on my e-ring sits low to the finger so a flat band left a gap and didnt look or feel right. I searched high and low for a shaped ring for ages but everything I looked at was too wishbone shaped or modern and didnt go with my 1930's e-ring. I was very lucky, we went on holiday to New York last new year and whilst we were there we looked in a few jewellery shops, low and behold, one of them had an original shaped art deco wedding ring which sat perfect with my e-ring. It was sold but the shop kindly took a mould of it and then made a completely new one for me. I still cant believe it, my e-ring and my wedding ring look like they were just made to be together.

When I was looking for shaped rings I found this site, they have a good selection and you can order samples to try with your e-ring /

Good luck, keep us posted as to how you get on ?

I just ordered ours from H Samuels last week. I had problems getting a standard band to fit around my engagement ring, but i've found one thats curved (not as sharply pointed as a wishbone ring) it's beautiful and sits perfectly around the ring. I would say the same if not a similar shaped ring would work well with your engagement ring as well (very pretty ring btw) xx
