Share your honeymoons!

Stazzle, 19 November, 2009 at 09:18 Posted on Planning 0 39

OK, this is a little bit self-indulgent as I just remembered I wanted to do a thread about ours when we initially booked it a couple of weeks back, but didn't have time and then we were away for a week. So just thought I'd start up a honeymoons thread so I can share it with you all, as well as see what all of you are doing/have done!

So, we're spending 2 weeks in Kenya with a 3 night safari trip in between. Here is our itinerary:

We fly out the day after the wedding at 19.45 and arrive in Mombasa at 06.55. Then we spend 4 nights at the Voyager Beach Resort in a Superior Garden View Room on All Inclusive: https://www.heritage-eastafrica.com/beach-holiday/voyager-beach-resort/accomodation

Then we spend 3 nights on the Mombasa Rendez Vous Safari:

Day 1 Mombasa to Tsavo

Early departure from Mombasa towards Tsavo and arrive at the lodge in time for lunch. Afternoon game drive in Tsavo and return to the lodge as the sun sets. Overnight at Voi Safari Lodge - https://voiwildlifelodge.com/

Day 2 Tsavo to Amboseli

Your en-route game drive takes you through Amboseli National Park for a chance to see cheetah, buffalo, giraffe, many types of gazelle and other plains game - and it’s all set against the amazing backdrop of majestic Mount Kilimanjaro. Overnight at Amboseli Sopa Lodge: https://www.sopalodges.com/amboseli/home.html

Day 3 Amboseli to Taita Hills

Travel east across the spectacular Shetani lava flow to the Tsavo National Park spotting game as you go. After lunch there will be a game drive in the park and a visit to Mzima Springs with its underwater viewing holes. Overnight at Sarova Taita Hills Game Lodge: https://www.sarovahotels.com/taitahills/index.php

Day 4 Taita Hills to Mombasa

Game drive in the sanctuary before returning to the lodge for lunch and onwards to Mombasa.

We then go back to the Voyager Beach Resort and spend 7 nights in a Superior Sea View Room on All Inclusive.

Have been looking on Trip Advisor and through loads of pics, it all looks absolutely wonderful, definitely think it will be the trip of a lifetime. OH and I are probably more excited about it than the actual wedding at the moment ?

So where is everyone else going? Show me!

OMG that sounds sooooo good!!!!! A question.....do you have to get jags to go there??? I won't go anywhere I need to get jags for.

I'll be interested to hear what everybody is doing as we haven't booked anything yet and are looking for ideas. I've kinda left this job with my OH (the one and only job) and nothing has been done about it yet. He might be spending time looking for something, I'm not sure, but he hasn't said much to me about it. Probably end up not going anywhere!!!!!

Thanks Gillsy, we're both really excited! By 'jags' do you mean injections? If so then yes we do need to get them I believe!

So do you think yours might be a surprise?!

Oooh I love this game, espesh as we've not gone on ours yet so can join in the excitement!

We're going on a luxurious trip of a lifetime, we've delayed going until next April as we need to save up some serious cash. We're spending 10 days in a lagoon villa here

    http://huvafenfushi.peraquum.com/slumber/Lagoon-Bungalow/default.aspx

There are only 43 villas on the island so we don't have to see or speak to anyone else and can just spend some serious quality time with my husband... I can't wait ?

ETA Loving the safari Stazzle, esp the first place you're staying on the safari part - lovely!

Wow stazzle! That is a proper adventure trip you have planned... love you itinerary! Will have a look at the links on my lunch break.

I'm gonna be a bit self indulgent here too I'm afraid... any excuse to talk about my honeymoon! I cannot wait!
My OH and I are sacking our jobs and jetting off the week after our wedding to spend our honeymoon travelling the world . (you can imagine the planning involved in this along with the wedding!!)

We're starting in NYC, driving across the states for a few months stopping in Boston, Philladelphia, New Orleans, Dallas, San Antonio, San Diego and San Francisco. More cities to be added.

This is gonna be pretty driving intensive so we're taking 4 weeks of sun holiday in The Cook Islands and Tahiti

Followed by 2 months campervanning around NZ with many new plans and many thanks to fellow hitcher diamonds ?

This is then followed by a 3 month trip around Oz, covering the east coast as well as joining a campervan convoy across the outback of the west country.

We're then spending about 5-6 months travelling around South East Asia....Indonesia, Phillipines, Malaysia, Cambodia, Vietnam, Thialand, Laos

Then we're heading to Hong Kong and Seoul in Korea

On the way hom for good measure we are stopping off in Egypt, followed by Finland to stay with some friends aaaaannnnddd theeennnnn home.

I am sooooooooooooooooo excited! Yet have so much to plan its crazy!

Beccy that looks like pure paradise! Amazing, I think we would have ended up with the Maldives too if we hadn't booked the safari - I've always thought it just looks like complete luxury ? Bet you can't wait!

I know - I really thought that the safari lodges would be pretty much glorified tents if I'm honest, I was fully prepared to have to 'rough it' a little bit (well in my sense of the term anyway! ?) but they actually look lovely. I just love the idea of being so close to all the wildlife too, there's one pool which looks out over a watering hole - just think that would be out of this world!

Nayso I think you've beat a lot of us there - wow, what an amazing thing to do! Don't envy you with the planning but I bet it will be a thousand times worth it. I think you could be a very worthy candidate for the Hitched Most Fabulous Honeymoon Award 2009 there ?

Hehe, thanks stazzle! here's hopin ?

The planning is all a bit hectic, but your right, i think when I spend that final day in work before the wedding I will feel like the luckiest woman alive, in more ways than one.
18 months is just about enough time to get it all sorted though so I'll hopefully pull it off.

Cant wait to have a look at your links... I'm kinda sneakin on here now. But will def have a scout on my lunch.

Mines a surprise!! I won't find out until I get to the airport ? D is doing all the booking but it's likely to be some sort of twin-centre style of thing - combing a beach stay and tour with maybe a stopover en-route.

We went to Bali in September which was a 5 night tour plus 7 night beach stay plus 3 nights in KL each way (2 out, 1 back). We did a similar thing in Sri Lanka too so I'm told it'll be that style of thing probably. I'm not worried, he knows the kind of thing we like and where we have/haven't been and want to go. ANd it makes a change for him to do it as I'm the organiser (used to be a travel agent many moons ago).

Stazzle: Wow - Safari! Very jealous! We've looked at safaris so many times but they're just so expensive. Defintiely on the "to do" list before kids! ?

Nayso: Sounds amazing. We did a month long tour of the US back in 2005 and it was great fun. You see so many cool things driving around!!

Beccy: Wowsers!! Posh or what!! ?

Forgot to add - I do know where honeymoon part 2 will be. We're looking to got to Vegas in September and at the mo plan to combine with a cheeky stop in NYC en-route. 4 nights NY then 7 nights Vegas! Wooo!

I did mean injections, yes. Ooooo, ok then I'll cross that one off the list...lol

Not sure if it will be a suprise. I told my OH a while ago that apparently it is tradition that the groom arranges the honeymoon (and pays for it!!!) and the bride doesn't know where shes going until they go. I think he took this literally!!!! lol

Wow that's some fantastic honeymoons you've got planned there girls!!

We've not booked anything yet but the plan is to go to New Zealand for three weeks, will probably campervan most of it and add in few nights in swish hotels here and there too! Hoping to either add in a stopover in the Far East or a few nights in a beach hut in Fiji before we come back aswell if we can afford it. Eeek getting excited talking about it now, I can't wait!!

It's nice to see all the different ideas for honeymoon. It's the one thing my H2B was VERY interested in!

GB, argh, how can you cope not knowing where you are going! (It's sweet though!)

We have booked - 5 nights in New York, then onto Florida for 10 nights and then 3 nights in Vegas. Im really looking forward to it. Will be lovely to get away together for a good long holiday x

OMG! that resort looks fantastic!! We haven't decided on a honeymoon yet. The two ideas my fiance had were a road trip (no way!) or somewhere in Europe. My aim is to get the wedding sorted first, then see how much we can spend on the honeymoon

Stazzle!! Just spent my lunch mosying through your links and itinerary.

You are a girl after my own heart... love every place and all of the things your doing. Esp Voi Safari Lodge!

I can totally understand that you nd OH are more excited about the honeymoon than the wedding.... think my OH is feeling the same. But I'm juggling excitement for both in my head.

Africa is definately on my list of places to travel, as is South America. They wil have to be done on a different trip to the one we have planned for honeymoon though. Think we would be pushing it to be away for more than the year that we've planned. Funds would not allow it.

I want a full honeymoon report from you btw missis!

Nayso - glad you approve! I will definitely do a honeymoon report, you try and stop me ?

Still feels like we've got a while to go, but we've been engaged since 2006 and booked the wedding in 2008 so putting that into perspective it's gone bloody quick!

You'll have to keep us all updated on your plans too!

    Oh goddamit, if i must...

we went to thailand - bangkok and koh samui. such an amazing country - would recommend it to all and sundry. no jags either, gillsy.... my H loved it so much, he got the thai flag tattooed on his arm, in bo phut, on koh samui. no joke.

ok, so we went here for 3 nights: http://www.shangri-la.com/en/property/bangkok/shangrila. here is the biggest, most comfortable bed IN THE WORLD:

then we went here for another 3 nights, http://www.samuihillsidevillage.com/ where we were the only people staying - we had the pool and gym all to ourselves!

view from the pool towards our villa.

then here for 7 nights: http://www.moonhutsamui.com/ which was FAB FAB FAB. here is the no1 bungalow which we stayed in - note proximity to ocean:

the accommodation in bangkok cost more than the 10 nights in KS! it wasn't the most expensive or most luxurious HM in the world, but we absolutely adored the place.

Best thing about thailand is the (majority of) the people. they are soooo friendly and cannot do enough for you. ok we also bumped into some right rotters, but hey, doesn't every country have their share? part of you thinks they see a white westerner and go for you to try and squeeze you out of all of your money, but they're not, they're just genuinely nice people.

so many beautiful beautiful places in the whole country.

in koh samui, head for bo phut - don't bother with chaweng, it's the thai equivalent of benidorm, horrible place. we rented a jeep and took it for a ride around the island for a day - great fun. we also went right up into the jungle which was amazing (and pretty scary). go to the buddha's magic garden, the big buddha and the other wat (temple) which is round the corner from it.

in bangkok you need to do all the touristy stuff - grand palace, temple of light/dawn (can't remember which it's called!), trip down the river, patpong night market ?

i am v.jealous you are going - we are desperate to go back!

ETA - if you can, get some suits made. i got 2 jackets, 1 pair of trousers, 1 skirt and 2 shirts made for about £180. i have worn the suits to death already. bargain!

I love thailand too! spent a month island hopping this summer, proper backpacking style. was mad but really fun. didn't think the people were that nice though - almost everyone we met was out to fleece tourists for as much as possible, and we also met a lot of 'gangster' type ones in some of the smaller islands. the few nice ones we we met were definitely the exception rather than the rule Smiley sad

but somehow i managed to miss out seeing bangkok properly - was jus there on the way in and out. soooo for my honeymoon:

4 nights in bangkok, seeing the touristy stuff, eating the DELICIOUS food and shopping!

and then 10 nights in paradise - the maldives! we are staying in an escape water villa in Coco Palm Bodu Hithi!

    http://www.cocopalm.com/boduhithi/escapewatervilla.html

always wanted to stay in one of those wooden huts over the sea, so am unbelievably excited! more excited than i am about the wedding, probably because i am too stressed out to be excited! yay

nayso - WOW wish i could take a year off and do that!!!!!! lucky you!!

    x

Oh my, are Jumbly Boy and myself the only ones not going anywhere exotic? Jumbly Boy is ginger so that rules out anywhere sunny ? (his words, not mine)

So, we're going to travel around southern Ireland and stay in some remote cottages in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by amazing scenery, drinking lovely wine, and just enjoying each other's company.

We're hoping to go somewhere like Argentina in late 2011 for a wine tasting and tango-dancing holiday, but I don't think that really counts as a honeymoon as it will be nearly 2 years since we were married ?

It sounds like you have some amazing honeymoons planned ladies!

Give you a better idea than the travel agents.

was anything expensive while you were there?
