Sharing our venue?

kj82, 24 November, 2010 at 11:10 Posted on Planning 0 20

Our venue is a private function type place. Upstairs is the ceremony room then downstairs is two function rooms. We are getting married at 5pm then having one of the function rooms from then too. I've just discovered that the other function room has been hired out for a private party. Do you think our guests will see each other? That's the one thing i was really worried about. Gatecrashers and people coming in the wrong room. I'm not bridezilla and I realise its not a big formal affair but Im still a bit upset that we'll see people that arent for the wedding lol, think its the stress! Do you think this will cause any problems?? Thanks xx

Guess it depends how far apart these rooms are.

unfortunately I imagine some people after a few drinkies will be naturally nosey and will want to see what is happening next door if they are close. But I doubt they would actually come in and gatecrash.

It shouldn't cause too many problems, and it doesn't really matter if the guests see each other. I've been to weddings in 'function rooms', and it's usually fine, they put a board outside stating which function is in that space. One guy wandered in having got lost on his way back from the loo, apologised, asked if he could kiss the bride for luck (he did!) and wandered off again - no problem just a little amusing.

The same thing has happened with our venue except it's two weddings on the same day. :o(

I do feel slightly anxious about it all as they will be having there meal/buffet etc at the same time as us, I have been reassured off our venue manager that things will be dealt with professionally and that neither party will meet but I am like you really nervous just incase. xx

Our venue had two weddings on at once and we didn't really cross paths with the other. You'll probably be too busy to notice! Only things we noticed were that my guests were asked to move out of their area when they arrived and their guests were trying to bring their kids on to our bouncy castle! (Neither of which is likely to happen with you as the other function isn't a wedding!)

One couple did end up in the wrong wedding by accident - work colleagues of H who had never met me and just presumed they hadn't come across H yet, until he came out of the loo and saw them across the hallway! ?

Our venue can hold two functions or weddings at once. I dont think it currently has. I personally dont mind, and if I did happen to meet anither bride on my wedding day I'd just wish her congratulations and move on I think.

As long as she didnt look better than me ?

Thanks ladies, I don't know if I feel better now or not but I spose I'll just have to deal with it and hope its a pensioners xmas party or something lol!!

Yes they are but I havent had any back for ages and I'm running out. I ask people to send them back to me so I can send them on and maintain control of the whole thing. *Insert control freak icon here <---*

You are next on the list if you want one, I did send Atlonglast an email but never got a reply Smiley sad

I would be less worried about guests, and more worried that they would struggle to feed everyone correctly if they were feeding the two parties at the same time, unless there were two kitchens and two chefs

    Hi,

The venue will try and keep you all separate as much as possible.

I'm afraid this is the norm at hotels where there are more than one function room.

Unless you have exclusive hire.(But then the cost is huge.)

Ours only has one wedding a day.. They did try and sell the exclusive hire, but an Extra few grand meant I said no.. They do have business meetings etc, BUT the wedding is a saturday so highly unlikely, and if there are other events going on, the wedding gets sole use of the kitchen and Bar anyway so the other people there will likely to be bored! Smiley laugh

So its not bothering me at all TBH.

I would ask lots of questions if another wedding was going to be on at same time especially about the food etc

Thanks - I don't know if I'm next, but didn't know when to expect it anyway. So your control-freakiness is a good thing really!

If I don't get one then that is my something borrowed out of the window! ?

FWIW over the years I have photographed dozens of venues where they have more than one wedding going on at the same time. One place even does up to 4. The only problem it has caused is that certain parts of the venue and grounds become off limits to keep the celebrants separate, which can be a nuisance if you wanted a photograph taken in a specific place.

    Hiya,

I'm sure there won't be any issues, though I understand where your coming from. The venue I chose has exclusive use for the day, which was a big selling point for us and it wasn't any more expensive than other similar establishments. the venue link is below:

    www.glenberviehousehotel.com

But as I've said, I've been to loads of weddings where more than one function has been going full blast. I even attended a reception in a church function suite and a homeless man wandered in and lined up at the buffet for his free meal lol. The bride didn't even bat an eyelid, in fact she encouraged him to eat saying "he must be hungry let him have his dinner"

    You'll have a great day I'm sure!!

I agree with you peter, I have seen up to 3 brides turn up at the same time, and then get told certain parts of the hotel are off bounds.

Even down to the ground of the venue, which is upsetting for the couples on the day, when they have been told that they could have there photography in a certain place before hand.

That was years ago, would never happen now, well not to my couples anyway. couples dont know the half of it.

I've been to a wedding where there were two function rooms and yes... i did sit at the wrong wedding for about 5 minutes?

but all in all, both parties kept separate. fingers crossed, it should be fine for you too

There are a couple of very well known venues close to me where they have a "communal area"....a feature that is a focal point for the photography. Both of these venues have multiple weddings and each wedding is allocated a time slot for the key location. This can work well until you get a wedding run late which may not have been the fault of the couple. They then miss their timeslot and may possibly not have a chance to return.

For those getting married at venues like these, do check as to how they work the allocation of the photography area in advance.

(btw, the two venues I refer to are Sopwell House and Tewinbury Farm)
