Shoe problem, need urgent advice

jem179, 10 May, 2010 at 19:32 Posted on Planning 0 17

I've spent the last couple of evenings trying to wear in my new wedding shoes with some thick socks. When I first got them they did catch a little bit where my double jointed toes bend the wrong way (sorry if tmi). But I tried them on agin today without my socks and they are ok on my left foot but absolutely crippling my right one, took them off 20 minutes ago after wearing them for about 45 minutes and my toes still hurt now.

I have to have open toes and slingbacks or ones with straps of some kind because of the problems I have with my feet. I did buy another pair of shoes ages ago with a lower heel for the evening but because of the length of my dress these are no good for the day and I really dont think I can get through even the ceremony in my original shoes.

What do I do? I'm at work until Thursday and wedding is Saturday!!

Why are they hurting your toes? Are they too high or too tight across the toe area?

Theyre not overly tight, just rubbing cross my big toe and the first joints on the next two. Not too high either, theyre a good inch lower than wat I would normally wear. Its the front of the band that goes across the toes thats catching as I walk

What A said. Can you put something across your toes to protect them and then change to your other shoes after the ceremony?

I tried a plaster before but where it's rubbing my big toe its catching the joint so the pain is a bit deeper.. Sorry I'm not making muc sense but I've gone into panic mode, been looking to see if I can get anything else on a quick delivery but bridal shoes are so pricey!

Can you stuff the 'toe' of your shoe with wet paper - not paper with ink though - it might help stretch. You can also get a stretch spray..... or wear that one, with thick sock under your desk??? Smiley smile

If they are too tight, try heating them up with a hairdryer and using the back of a spoon to push around the inside stretching them out slightly.

If not, as the other girls said, try some bunion/blister type things, you can get clear ones.

Have you tried 'Magic Feet' (I think that's what it's called!) I think they do a range of products but the one I've tried is like a roll-on clear gel, and it stops blisters where your shoes rub. I've been prancing round in my wedding shoes, and they're not too bad, but I'll be smothering my feet in said gel on the day! You can get it at B***ts.

Maybe you could get some where the front bit is like a flip flop - with the bit in between your big toe and second toe - dont know what the proper name for these is? but like proper heels - i got a pair like this with like diamante straps and a 3.5" heel. was from faith a few years ago, will try and find a pic for u, kinda like these, not sure what colour your dress is xx

    Thanks girls,

Alia, I've never worn toe post shoes, are they comfortable? my dress is white but its quite long and the shoes I have are champagne so I dont really mind about the colour too much!!

It's not so much the rubbing I'm worried about as the pain in the joint when I'm walking...

i think toe post shoes are a lot more comfortable than peep toe or other strappy heels cos there is nothing across your toes restricting and squeezing them. it's like the front of a flip-flop, no pressure on the toes whatsoever. of course there is a bit of an ache as your entire foot is arched cos of the heel.

might be worth trying some on if your toes are being constricted by material running across them? good luck! x

Where do you work? Is there any way that you could wear them in there? I've been prancing around like a right ejit the last few weeks with my bridal shoes on in the office. It's fine as everyone knows what I'm doing, even if it looks weird.... The hairdryer trick is a good one, we used to use that a lot when I used to wear my pointe shoes (talk about crippling) and vaseline is a good shout. We also used to tape our toes together with surgical tape to avoid pain. And another slightly ickier method is to harden the skin on your feet up by soaking them in a mixture of water and epsom salts - that's a ballet dancer's trick!

Nona that made me laugh! although with the trouble I have with my joints could you make it my arms and legs too?? lol

Jumbly girl, I work for a waste management company and I'm the only woman in my depot of 65 staff!! They already tease me about everything, I can just imagne the reaction now!!lol

I have persuaded my boss to give me a long lunch and I'm going to head to Faith, it's never let me down before, the only place I can walk into and guarantee that any shoe I pick up will fit! Here's hoping they have some left in my size... I'm trying the replacement before the fixing option!!lol
