Shoes

Hello all

I was looking for advice on bridal shoes.

I'm not able to cope with heels (weak ankles) and am not used to them. I don't want to wear flats at all - but I do want to be very comfortable for the whole day + eve. Budget islimited, but I dont mind spending a bit more than I would usually spend on shoes (around £30 is norm) as it is a special occassion. Comfort is very important to me!

Hubby 2 be is pretty much the same height as me (maybe a cm difference). With veil/tiara/hair do, I will look a bit taller I imagine. I really want the photos to look good - with him slightly taller than me.

He may consider a kind of groom heel - apparently cuban heels work and someone recommended dancing shoews.

Any recommendations that would suit our needs and budget?

Would you be able to manage a small wedge heel? More stability but not quite flat. For the groom, some formal shoes do just have a more blockish cuban heel in, that should be pretty easy for him to find on the high street and they can double up as work shoes if he works in an office or anything.

I would just stroll down to high street stores like Debenhams and BHS etc. Try not to go for bridal shops as there's a mark up for anything labelled "wedding"

Hi Helena! I too don't usually wear heels (dodgy back) and am already a couple of inches taller than my OH so was insistent I would be in flats for the whole day. At a push I was prepared to wear a little kitten heel, but couldn't find anything I liked that fitted the bill within my budget.... I didn't really want to go over about 35 for heels and less for flats. I figured I could get some plain ones and style them up to something nice. Then I thought, if it doesn't bother OH me being taller and I could find something comfortable enough to wear for a couple of hours (the important ceremony and photos bit) then I could always just slip on my silver flats. Seriously, a couple of minutes inheels usually canes me but I fell for some BHS kittens a lady was selling on ebay. Bargain so if they weren't comfy it was no loss. Anyway, even though they are a little higher than I expected they are seriously comfy!! I've padded around the house in them a bit and figured I wouldn't actually be doing loads of walking on the day so I'm sticking with them. They have stopped doing the exact design in bhs now,but am sure they have very similar called Kate or Katie? About 35 I think. Might be worth a try.... They are always returnable anyway. Another thing, I was concerned I looked a bit dumpy on my dress pics and just a slight heel makes my posture sooooo much better that I feel slimmer straighter and taller, so they are a real confidence booster. As for your OH, it's obviously up to you both whether he wears some sort of stacked heel, but unless you are really concerned about looking taller on the pics I wouldn't bother. Good luck! I'll see if known can find the pic or link for the shoes xx

    Hi,

Try this website http://www.girlsofelegance.co.uk/ they have some really good buys in the sale area with lots of different styles and heel sizes. I ordered some from them on Monday and received them on Thursday, unfortunately one had a mark on them so I called them up and they are exchanging them not problem. The other place I have been looking is Amazon as I want a pair of flats for the evening and there are lots of options cheaply priced on there.

Yes of course - he is the one who says he may consider the cuban heels

He's also conscious that he is quite a bit shoter than his groomsmen, it doesnt matter really, but he has been thinking about groom shoes that give him a little height.

I've found the one you mentioned, but they only do very limited sizes.

I've found a shoe called Mathilda by Rainbow that looks fab - but can't find my size 7.5/8 anywhere

    I will keep on looking!

    Have a look at Next.

I too can't wear heels. I got a great pair (small heel, ivory with a butterfly broach to match the table decorations!)

for £28- not in sale. They do wide fit as well as regular and half sizes.

Very cheap but look expensive Smiley smile

Ditto. I really think you should explore every alternative before even thinking along these lines. Unless you are 1. John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever or 2. Patrick Swayze in Dirty Dancing, Cuban heels give out only one message - I'm short, I'm conscious of it, I'm trying to hide it and I'm failing spectacularly.

If a male friend of mine wore these for his wedding, the p*ss would be ripped for a very long time, if not indefinitely. Not to mention a great deal of internalised mirth on the day - did nobody see Ricky Gervais in the Office, as he clicked around in his Cuban heels?

I'm not sure what size you are but I came across loads of those butterfly shoes from Next on Ebay when I was browsing for shoes over the weekend. Brand New for less than £10 and in a variety of sizes....
