Shoes

Isabel.McKee, 28 January, 2009 at 15:44 Posted on Planning 0 5

I have bought dyeable bridesmaid shoes at BHS. My local bridal shop in Northern Ireland tell me they will not take the dye. Can anyone tell me where to go to get them dyed.

Hi Isabel, I don't think I can really help you, but your post was looking unloved, so I thought I'd bunp it up a bit!

Did the shop explain why the shoes wouldn't take dye? Is it because of the material? If so, would any other place be able to dye them at all I wonder?

Maybe it's worth asking the shop again so they can tell you exactly what the problem is. If the shoes are unworn and you have the receipt, I would have thought you could take them back if necessary!

Also, the other thing I woud say, is that if your bridesmaids' dresses are long, then possibly the shoes wouldn't be seen!

I'm sure someone can help you!

(welcome to hitched by the way!)

Depending on the shoe tbh. If theres a nylon mix to the fabric of the shoe it will not dye well. If the fabric has been glued to the shoe then the glue comes through as well. You are best to buy shoes which are reputed to be good for dyeing such as rainbow, ivory, pink..... etc BHS shoes MIGHT work but depends on the company you are taking them to to dye. If they dont want to take the risk they wont take them. (and make you buy their stock of shoes!)

Thanks for your comments. Apparently the dye runs off the shoe! I can take the shoes back to the shop and get a refund.

I bought BHS shoes for my bridesmaid with the intention of getting them dyed. Agian like yourself no one would dye them for me as they said it wouldnt take. Since they weren't very expensive (£17.50) I took a chance and dyed them myself with some dylon that I got from ebay. They have came out fine. However if I had paid more for them then I wouldn't have taken the risk,I would have taken them back. If you are willing to risk losing your money then take the chance and dye them yourself. If not then I recommend taking them back and getting proper dyable shoes ie not any from the high street stores. I had done some research on the net and most people say not to dye these shoes because it doesn't come out right. Personally I think that I just got lucky when I did it.

My BMs and I werer looking at the shoes in BHS the other week and saw a big label on them saying "dyeable shoes". While we were looking at them however the assistant came over and said she had overheard but wanted us to know that they were NOT dyeable and they had problems with them before.. needless to say we didn't get them!
