Shoes for larger footed ladies

Featherpaw, 3 April, 2015 at 16:38 Posted on Planning 0 8

Hi everyone!

I'm in a bit of a pickle in what to do about shoes. The first problem is that i'm a size 9 and it seems most shoe shops seem to think the biggest sized foot is an 8, so normal shoe shopping never has a happy ending (I always end up with trainers). The next problem is that I have a high in-step and narrow feet, so anything that does not have a strap just falls off. And the last problem is I am rather fussy when it comes to shoes. I hate hate hate HATE high heels or anything that's characteristically "girly". Fashion is not my thing. I'm the type of girl who wears no make-up and just hangs around in jeans, a hoodie and a t-shrit. So frilly things, lace, bows and sparkles is not me! The other thing is I want to avoid heels as i'm 5 foot 10 inches tall which is an inch taller than my OH. If I wear any sort of heel at the wedding i'll be towering over him! No thank you! I've been searching high and low for shoes for my wedding that aren't over-budget (don't really want to be spending over £50 here) and that I will be comfortable in, both physically and mentally. Now i've come to a dead end and am in need of some help/advice. So does anyone know of anywhere that sells size 9 shoes for weddings at a reasonable price?

This will also be useful for my sister as she has the same problem. Size 9 feet, same views on fashion, but she's got wide feet. And she's my bridesmaid. But the other problem with her is finding shoes that will match her dress! She's wearing a dark purple (they called it "plum") dress in a chiffon type fabric and it has a little dimante starburst detail on the left side of the hip. Since I know it's going to be really hard to find a purple shoe that will match, any ideas what might go with the dark purple??

My MOH has the opposite problem in that she's got tiny narrow feet, and her dress is light purple (not lilac). She likes girly things so she'll probably have an easier time finding something she likes. But she's stuck for colour ideas too. So any thoughts on shoe colours that goes with light purple will be very much appreciated too!

Thanks so much in advance!

P.S: If it helps, my dress is a medieval style in ivory.

This dress style;

but with these split-chiffon sleeves (and this colour):

I would suggest your bridesmaids go for silver or pewter which will look great with all shades of purple.

Try looking at normal shoes/sandals don't get caught up in the 'wedding shoe' trap. You will have far more choice and more affordable. Lots of high street shops go up to size 9. Given your dress is long you too could go for silver/pewter or gold or any nude shade. Or you could go for a statement bright colour - maybe a purple shade to tie in with your bridesmaids.

I'm also having problems although only a size 7. I have shallow narrow feet and want sandals. They have to have an ankle strap or they'll fall off. Most are too wide at the front so I fall about in them / through them. I ordered some online which were supposed to be narrow fit. Not only were they far too wide the heel was also a good inch higher than stated on the site and I want a heel at most 2.5 inches but preferably nearer 2inches.

Good luck - i know how frustrating it is.

Have you tried long tall sally? They have these in the sale

    Or these

This was just on a very quick look but they go well beyond a size 9 Smiley smile

Thanks for all the input so far Smiley laugh

I'm trying to avoid sandals or open-toed shoes if I can help it to be honest. I don't really want my toes on show! haha! But I know that is adding more difficulty to the shoe hunt. I'll look into long tall sally. Hopefully they'll have something I like that's on sale!

I will let my sister and MOH know about silvers/pewter colours. That sounds really nice! I will also let my mother know, but she's not going to like it!!! She's convinced that it all has to be traditionally matchy-matchy with the shoes, among other things ?

I just found these http://www.debenhams.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/prod_10701_10001_63126+1208_-1 that I quite like, they come in a 9 and it's only a teeny weeny bit over budget. But I can't tell how high the heel is. It doesn't say in the specs but it looks tall. I don't know. I'm already taller than my OH as it is (only 1 inch, but still). Just adding more height will look weird :/

Next do size 9 and also Clarks but you may have to order them in. I recently walked into our local Clarks and asked if they had any knee high boots (I had been looking for 2-3 years) lady said I'll check our stock, I scoffed but she came down with 2 pairs to choose from, I was gobsmacked. I am 57 and had size 9 feet since I was 12/13 so I know your pain. Try internet for you and bridesmaids, you can get satin ballet pumps and you could get them dyed to match. Good luck

just to warn you pink by parodox are a size smaller than normal - so if you are a size 9 you would need a 10.

i think New Look go up to size 9.
